Need a ? - Canada is on fire[edit]

Did you know that Canada has a hell of a forest fire going on ? 216.247.72.142 (talk) 11:40, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You mean these? -- Avocado (talk) 11:52, 28 June 2023 (UTC).[reply]

Sure do. Just heard on my news outlets that NYC, other airports are shutting down over the dense smoke. Canada's article needs Current Event template on it. I'd state something there, but the article is protected. I've got smoke all over the place, and a glitch.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.247.72.142 (talk) 12:04, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a question for the reference desk ? DOR (ex-HK) (talk) 19:37, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. Clarityfiend (talk) 19:27, 29 June 2023 (UTC) [reply]

County haul[edit]

I just learned that the election for Mayor of London, which was always done using proportional representation, is being done on the first past the post system next May. Why the change? Presumably there will be GLA elections as well. Will there be any change there? 2A00:23C6:2417:3101:849E:7B53:B9AB:8D4E (talk) 16:25, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

See Elections Act 2022, where the change was made from supplementary vote (not PR, which would not apply to a single-post election). A possible reason is mentioned under Elections Act 2022#Criticism. -- Verbarson  talkedits 20:53, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Pep Guardiola's page[edit]

Can someone help me sort out the sources? It's been a while since I've done this and I'm a bit rusty. Thank you very much. Andreoto (talk) 18:15, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much anyway, I solved it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andreoto (talkcontribs) 18:26, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, this was very easy for us.  Card Zero  (talk) 18:33, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

death notice service[edit]

Tangent to "Post-death reputation protection service" above:

I am a bit bothered that, when I die, no one knows all the ways I'd want to get the word out (my own website, Wikipedia, Twitter, Mastodons, various mailing lists). Is there a reputable service for this, perhaps with a monthly deadman switch? —Tamfang (talk) 22:26, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The deadman switch being triggered merely signifies you are incapacitated and/or forgetful, either of which can result from a multitude of causes other than death.  --Lambiam 23:08, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am reminded of the Law & Order episode "Rapture" (from season 19). --142.112.221.43 (talk) 03:36, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes but that's a bad sequel of what would happen if you were to chose the second rate instead of the premium. --Askedonty (talk) 13:05, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There are companies that claim to do that, but why would you pay and trust them? People normally appoint an executor, a close friend or relative, to carry out those tasks for free. Shantavira|feed me 08:54, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not necessarily "for free"; see Executor#Executor pay. --142.112.221.43 (talk) 18:48, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Under my grandmother's will her property went into a trust for the benefit of her grandchildren, the assets to be distributed as to half on the death of each of her two daughters (one of whom was my mother) for the benefit of that daughter's children. The trust was administered by a friendly solicitor who was executor of her will. When he retired, administration was taken over by the Public Trustee, who charged for the service. 81.135.52.95 (talk) 09:12, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
