01:15:38, 29 October 2014 review of submission by Jasoningham[edit]

I was hoping to understand what is required to revise in my article for it to be approved? I didn't receive any feedback in the review so i was hoping someone would be kind enough to assist. Thank you Jasoningham (talk) 01:15, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Jasoningham: You've provided insufficient independent sources. For example, you cite the subject's mom's syllabus to verify she teaches. That's great but it's her syllabus and she put it there. You cite the subject's "Team Force" website for that content; that's self-published. If no one independent is writing about the subject, the subject can't be notable. @Luklear: Not sure I pinged WikiProject Chemistry about this draft. I highly recommend you trim that quote down and write more original content. Chris Troutman (talk) 04:08, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 13:27:43, 29 October 2014 for assistance on AfC submission by PERICLES-FP7[edit]

I tried creating a wikipedia page for one of the FP7 projects that deal with data preservation and it got withdrawn because it "appeared to be promotional". I have seen several other such pages on wikipedia and I don't understand why mine was rejected. This is the page I tried creating: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PERICLES_FP7_Project_2013-2017 Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

ok thank you very much! I'll have another go at it!

PERICLES-FP7 (talk) 13:27, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am not an admin so cannot see the text that has been deleted. I am thus only able to offer general advice:
  • Ensure that the topic is notable by researching sources. We require references from significant coverage about the topic of the article, and independent of it, and in WP:RS please. See WP:42. If there are no such sources then it is not notable
  • Write the article around what the sources say, not what you want people to read
  • Keep the tone neutral. Think "Dull-but Worthy"
It is always tempting to compare with other articles, but that fails. IMagine a poor article setting a precedent. That would allow our quality to degrade fast, en route to idiocracy
Your user name suggests to me that you are involved with whatever Pericles FP7 is, and may not be the best person to wrote the article because of a conflict of interest. You may be one of those rare folk who can do the job well. I hope you are. Fiddle Faddle 13:50, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There is what I presume to be a copy in your sandbox, though. What I suggest you do is to work on that, looking at my thoughts above, and resubmit it for review. Do understand that not all EU projects have inherent notability. Fiddle Faddle 14:17, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

14:39:37, 29 October 2014 review of draft by Askinstoken[edit]

I am added, after references, a list of youtube videos which were blacklisted. Can I put these into a cloud or other an other storage place such as Zilla and then list with links in this article ?

Askinstoken (talk) 14:39, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Only if you are the copyright owner. Otherwise no. Fiddle Faddle 16:52, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

15:19:19, 29 October 2014 review of submission by Cazjohn[edit]

what is the copyrighted content that means this page is declined? Chris is allowed to use the ACW film. It's about his film and work. Cazjohn (talk) 15:19, 29 October 2014 (UTC) Cazjohn (talk) 15:19, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Cazjohn: Just because Chris has permission doesn't mean that Wikipedia has permission to use it. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. --Ahecht (TALK

15:19:49, 29 October 2014 review of submission by Candicenature[edit]

Fang Yuan, who is a well known Chinese pianist, would like to submit her biography on Wikipedia, like other artists. Please could you let me know why the request of the title Fang Yuan could not get the approval at this stage. Candicenature (talk) 15:19, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Candicenature. The reasons are explained on the draft page itself, Draft:Fang Yuan. Please let us know if you have any further questions about the reasons explained there and the guidelines linked to. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 15:29, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Draft:Oswald Werner

Hi Fiddle/Timtrent

Please do not destroy my work, yet! In my view the ONLY thing that needs permission in this work are two pages that are a direct "quote" of comments made by Prof. Pinxten (@ Copyright 1995 Communication and Cognition, Ghent, Belgium). I can not paraphrase these and give justice to the contribution my brother has made to Ethnoscience. I am in the process of securing same. That will probably take some time.

The rest of the massive publishing record is copied directly from my brother's resume (do I need his permission since the resume is public record that he used to secure grants and jobs.).

Other references in the draft are to some of the more obscure issues that are "free". Another source and may be needed of like information for clarification.

Since wi are not yet live, please give me the time to finish this complex job. That is of course you don't find some major objection. the other alternative is that there is no one in WIKIPEDIA with the scope of contribution my brother has made and someone will find it useful help me out to make WIKI's efforts better than beforeby adding his contributions to general knowlege.Roland Werner 22:45, 29 October 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Roland Werner (talkcontribs)

I am not about to destroy your work. But you must look at the banner on the draft that warns you about copyright violation and you must take action, or others will take action. One thing we must be clear about is that it is not your work if it is someone else's work that you have copied and pasted. That part must go, and go now. You can sort out WP:Donating copyright material at leisure after that. There seems to me to be sufficient other material in the draft that there is material to save. Copyright law is absolute, and Wikipedia will not tolerate breaches. If you cannot write it in your own words, it must go. You may not fully realise this, but anywhere on Wikipedia is live to some extent, and copyright violations are a problem wherever they are.
To be clear, any material that is written is somebody's copyright, usually that of the writer. If you copy and paste that material into Wikipedia (or anywhere else) without being licenced to do so then you breach their copyright.
With regard to your brother's catalogue of works, it is likely that a tremendous list of publications is not meat and drink to an article here. We tend to ask people to prune to those that are the most significant and to use a reliable index to their work as a reference to show there is much more. The material by him is a matter of public record, yes, and it may thus be referenced from that public record.
What I think you need is a mentor here or to be adopted by an editor used to helping new editors. I am unable to do that, it is not my forte. Read Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user and see how that may well help you a great deal. But solve the copyright issue first. This link shows the precise problem. Fiddle Faddle 23:45, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
