Wikipedia:WikiProject British-Irish Collaboration/Voluntary Code of Conduct

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ikipedia, being a collaborative work, requires the efforts of many editors to be written. The ideal is that editors would work in a spirt of collegialism. Topics relating to British and Irish politics and history present particular challenges to editors. The diversity of perspectives, the strength of feeling and the apparent incompatibility of positions on these topics make it difficult to craft articles while keeping Wikipedia's behavior and content guidelines.

An encyclopedia is compendium of knowledge. It is not the role of Wikipedia to correct the body of knowledge on a topic. Nor is it necessary for Wikipedia to present a cohesive perspective or conclusive argument, nor even the truth.

In relation to these topics, we acknowledge:

  • Their fraught nature
  • The diversity of perspectives among editors and reliable sources
  • The personal importance they have for editors
  • The significance of words in describing them

With these acknowledgements in mind, we agree to a voluntary code of conduct:

We re-affirm our commitment to:

Essential to these commitments is a spirit of listening and accordance with talk page guidelines.

We reject the use of Wikipedia as a battle ground and affirm our commitment to our fellow editors and collaborators in this project.
