Common sections

[edit]

Updated the format for article section to include a complete list of common Lepidoptera sections. The old section was limited. This suggested format was provided by Joan Strassmann, the Rebstock Professor of Biology at Washington University in St. Louis. It is intended to provide a standard for anyone wishing to contribute to Project Lepidoptera. Her students will edit and introduce approximately 50 species-specific articles in the next few months. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tdawson01 (talkcontribs) 01:01, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus on proposed format?

[edit]

Is there consensus on the proposed article format? I never found a Wikipedia species article organized in this way, not even featured articles. The proposed articles (Limenitis procris and Eacles imperialis) follow a quite different format, much more similar to the format I always found in good species articles. I suggest to modifiy this proposed format to make it more consistent with Wikipedia:WikiProject_Tree_of_Life/Taxon_template, something like:

  • Lead section
  • Description - physical description
  • Taxonomy
    • Genetics
    • Evolution
  • Distribution and habitat
    • Host plants
  • Ecology and behavior
    • Life cycle
    • Migration (if applies)
    • Food sources
    • Predators, parasites, pathoges and mutualistic relationships
    • Behavior - Social behavior, parental care, territoriality, mating
    • Physiology - vision, etc...
  • Conservation
  • Interactions with humans

Fair enough. I concur in principle. Your point about bringing it closer to the Tree of Life is well taken. The article format looks good at first glance. The exact format would need consensus. It may be noted though that it will require a considerable body of rework to bring the old articles to the new format. Ashwin Baindur (User:AshLin) (talk) 07:33, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
