Yana Demyanchuk (Ukrainian: Яна Дем'янчук, born 1993 in Ukraine) is a Ukrainian Artistic Gymnast who won gold on Beam at the 2009 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships.[1][2] This was Yana's first major international competition and her immediate impact has revitalised the Ukrainian team ahead of the 2009 World Championships. She also qualified to the All Around Final, where she placed 12th.

Demyanchuk started gymnastics at 6 years of age at the insistence of her father. According to her words, she wants to be like Alina Kozich. Initially, she trained in Ivano-Frankivsk and later at the Republic Higher School of Physical Education in Kiev.[3]

Yana's Life outside of Gymnastics

Yana is a big fan of popular Ukrainian singer Tina Karol, using her song "Pupsik" as her floor music. Yana likes to listen to Britney Spears and lots of foreign music. She also likes the group Encore. Yana likes to draw and paint as well. She speaks mostly Russian and Ukrainian but knows some English.

Competition History

2007

Yana competed at a tri-country meet between Ukraine, Germany, and Catalonia(Spain).

For vault she competed a Yurchenko layout. For her floor exercise, her tumbling passes were a double pike, a double twist, a front one and a half twist to front layout, and a front handspring through to a layout full twist. On bars her release moves included a toe-on tkatchev, tkatchev, pak salto, and a double pike for the dismount. On beam her skills included front tuck, back tuck, Arabian, roundoff layout, and a double tuck dismount.

2008

Yana competed at the Voronin Cup in Moscow, placing 3rd in the All-Around competition, 3rd in the Vault finals, 3rd in the Floor Exercise finals, and 3rd in the Uneven Bar finals.

She also competed at the Junior European Championships, placing 6th in the Balance Beam finals.

2009

In February, Demyanchuk competed at the 2009 WOGA Classic in Frisco, Texas, where she placed 3rd in the All-Around, 1st on Uneven Bars, 2nd on Floor Exercise, and 4th on the balance beam.

Yana also competed at the 2009 Nadia Comăneci International Invitational, in Oklahoma City, OK, where she placed 2nd in the All-Around (only behind 2008 Olympic champion Sandra Izbaşa), 3rd on vault, 1st on Uneven Bars, 4th on Balance Beam, and 3rd on Floor Exercise. Also, in the training for the Nadia Comăneci Invitational, she trained a new round-off tucked back full twist, instead of a layout, and nailed it.

Yana had her breakout competition at the European Championships in April, where she qualified fourth into the All-Around competition and ultimately placed 12th. She also won gold in the Balance Beam finals ahead of Olympians Anamaria Tămârjan and Gabriela Drăgoi from Romania.

Yana went to London, England for the 2009 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in October with Ukraine team Dariya Zgoba, Valentina Holenkova, and Anastasia Koval, but did not do as well as she hoped. She was the second reserve in the all-around final only in 26th spot. She qualified in 37th for the uneven bar finals, 46th on beam, and 30th on the floor. She did not compete in the all-around or any event final which was a big upset for her.

Yana also competed at the Swiss Cup in Zurich placing 4th with Mykola Kuksenkov behind the Swiss pair and both German pairs with a 29.3 in the last round.

Yana did however come back at the Blume Memorial where she competed several new skills. On uneven bars, she performed several difficult combinations that included four big release moves. She also (on beam) competed a round-off to a tucked back full twist, but fell. She also competed (on floor) a new tucked full-in and a huge double-back.

2010

Yana participated in the 2010 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Rotterdam, Netherlands, where she competed on only two events, the uneven bars and the balance beam. Yana placed 10th on the balance beam in prelims and qualified into the balance beam event final. In the final, Yana fell on her dismount, finishing 8th with a score of 13.733.
