"You Didn't Have to Be So Nice" is the second single released by The Lovin' Spoonful, released in 1965. The song was featured on their 1966 album Daydream. It reached #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January of 1966.[1]

It has been cited as an inspiration for the composition of the song "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys.[2]
