University of Hull - images[edit]

Hi.

You need to be sure that you are not infringing copyright on the images you have introduced to the article. They may be challenged and deleted if you do not have a good case. Not by me, but the people on Wikimedia Commons are keen as mustard on copyright issues. Urselius (talk) 11:36, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Derwent Building, Hull University Business School.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Derwent Building, Hull University Business School.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sohambanerjee1998 14:46, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

howdy[edit]

Hello John, you can call me 74. I'm working with Clover on an article about a corporation in Puchong Malaysia, and they noticed your article on Heng_Siew_Chiang_Sendirian_Berhad. It's very sharp looking, good work.  :-)   I found another link for the case in the High Court, which is a secondary source, a speciality publisher which serves law firms that are interested in Malaysian legal decisions. Here is the 2010 link.[1][2] Usually, because the government is a WP:PRIMARY source about lawsuits, it is better to be careful in using such documents. No need to take the direct link to the court-document out, it is potentially useful to the readership also.[3] When I was looking around for other sources about the corporation, I was not able to find much. But then, I was only looking on the internet, not in library microfilm or anything, and furthermore, I don't speak Chinese nor Tamil, which Clover1991 says are reasonably common in Malaysia. Do you know of other newspapers/teevee/magazine/government sources about the corporation? It is WP:NOTEWORTHY because of the CLJ cite, methinks.

While I'm here.... From glancing over your blog, it looks like you are aiming for a degree in business; do you have time to help out with some of the corporation-articles? Clover is working on two right now, a municipal-and-government contractor in Malaysia called Duromac, and their overseas equipment manufacturer Hako, with help from a few other folks. We are also thinking about trying to help improve BOH Plantations, which is a tea manufacturer and tourist destination all rolled into one. It's no problem if you don't have the interest, wikipedia is not WP:REQUIRED, as you know. But we'd appreciate somebody with a good hand for tight prose, who knows a bit about the recent history of Malaysia; we have sources for Duromac, but need a few sentences filled in, plus a short background-context-paragraph.

Anyhoo, please feel free to reply here, or you can leave a message over on my talkpage... just click 'talk' by my name, then click 'new section' at the top, type your message, and click 'save'. Thanks for improving wikipedia, it's appreciated. p.s. Noticed your image-uploads above were waxed; did you take the pictures with your own digital camera? That's usually the best way, because then you own the copyright yourself, and can license the photos as you wish, to satisfy the Commons requirements. I've not done it, but Clover has, and there are a few folks with experience I can aim you at, if you like. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 21:36, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

question about appeal[edit]

Noticed your edits... but did not quite understand. Is there an appeals-court case going on right now? Or at least, an appeals-process which happened after the original decision by the court? Is the appeal finalized, or is there still some uncertainty as to what will happen? Thanks. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 20:03, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Robert Kuok.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Orphaned non-free image File:University of Hull Shield.png[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:University of Hull Shield.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:36, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
