Rivalries navboxes
[edit]Hi Zeng8r, I appreciate the comment you left on my talk page. I only made the navboxes for teams with rivalries in multiple sports to avoid redundancy. I generally made the navboxes for schools with at least two non-football rivalries. These non-football rivalries (basketball, soccer, etc.) are usually not linked in the existing navboxes (like {{Template:Florida Gators football navbox}}) and provide additional valuable information about a certain school's rivalries. For example, {{Template:Florida Gators rivalries navbox}} includes seven football and two basketball rivalries. From the individual football and basketball rivalry pages, there is no ability to easily find the school's rivalries in another sport. I do not anticipate making any further navboxes as these would fall outside the two non-football rivalries scope. If you have any further advice, I would appreciate your input to avoid mass deletion. Thanks. B1GLAX2 (talk) 19:17, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
Can we discuss Cuban sandwiches?
[edit]I'm willing to talk about this with a cool head, but I'm having a hard time justifying the inclusion of a regional ingredient in the traditional ingredient list when clearly there is a dedicated subsection for that discussion. Why only include salami, when there are other regional ingredients not explicitly listed in this section? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:84A0:87CF:51D1:4340:8A25:143C (talk) 20:43, 27 January 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:84A0:87CF:51D1:4340:8A25:143C (talk)
- Thanks for refraining from further silliness at Cuban sandwich. You technically shouldn't be posting at all, but since you asked nicely... This topic has been discussed and discussed again over the years. Here's the crux: there's a long-standing and unresolvable question/dispute about where Cuban sandwiches originated - Key West or Tampa. Thus the Tampa Cuban (with salami) could actually be the original, meaning that the salami-less version is the regional variant. There are reputable sources on both sides of this argument, so the article very carefully treads the middle ground and explains both possibilities as required by Wikipedia's neutral point of view guidelines. Zeng8r (talk) 00:20, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
I'm not sure what silliness you're referring to, as my only edit was to remove "perhaps salami" from a section where it didn't belong. I understand the backstory of the cuban sandwich. My point is, in the initial ingredient section, why include a debated ingredient. Why not include the agreed upon ingredients only, and save the debated ingredients for the regional variations section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:84A0:87CF:137:570C:570C:F014 (talk) 00:31, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- As you likely know, an IP using the same ISP as yours was blocked for repeatedly vandalizing the article only minutes after your edits to the same article were removed, requiring an administrator to lock it down. You're now using another IP address in the same range and on the same ISP. The likelihood of all that being a coincidence are remote. And as for the actual article, my earlier response already answered your question. Zeng8r (talk) 01:25, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Wiki Project Tampa Bay
[edit]Hey, thank you for acknowledging the Water Street (Tampa) article. How can we get the Wiki Project Tampa Bay back to a status of Active? Is there anything I can do? Cheers! Connorgrill (talk) 23:59, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- I've been meaning to write a Water Street article but hadn't gotten around to it, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that you'd already created it a while ago. As for the Tampa wikiproject, just scroll through Tampa articles and make them better, or start a new one on anyone or anything that's notable. I've been the only person patrolling or improving Tampa-related articles for the last few years, so you're very very welcome to jump in and improve wiki-coverage of any Tampa-centric topics that interest you. Tampa Bay History Center
[edit]Hi there, the Tampa Bay History Center was established on September 21, 1989 (source)and has operated as an institution at several locations before opening at 801 Water Street. Would it be appropriate to update the established date to 1989? 47.206.189.189 (talk) 18:08, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- The foundation that sought to establish a Tampa history museum was organized in 1989, but the place didn't open for quite a long time after that, and that's the year that should be used in the infobox. The article itself needs a lot of work, though - that section of bullet points needs to be turned into prose with some of the less important details culled. Wish I had time to work on it. - I removed all scare quotes from the lead to demonstrate that there is another way to do this. See my comments on the GA review page. Excessive use of scare quotes like this really isn't necessary, but I understand your reason for putting them there. Just trying to show you that there is another way. [edit]The article Gasparilla Pirate Festival you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Gasparilla Pirate Festival for comments about the article, and Talk:Gasparilla Pirate Festival/GA2 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Interesting bit on Florida baseball
[edit]Media guides claim Florida baseball starts in 1912, but the 1911 yearbook has a team picture. With coach Dougal Buie in his UNC outfit. Also, looks like they might have a pre-history before 1906 like the football team does. In 1902, Mercer beat "Florida". Mercer had a good pitcher named Porter. Mercer ends the year upsetting Georgia 3-1 to ruin UGA's first attempt at a Southern title. Haven't found anything elaborating on who the Florida team was. Heisman's Clemson team beat Mercer, making any claim to a title a mess. Cake (talk) 18:18, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- Interesting. UF had an informal club-level team from 1906 through 1911 but I don't know who that 1902 Florida team could be. Some old sports records were quite vague and spotty - I've seen football scores listing "Tampa" from the early 1900s when The University of Tampa didn't exist before the mid-1930s. Is the 1911 yearbook online? I'd be curious to see it. Zeng8r (talk) 23:18, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- What you speak of was the "Tampa town team", started by J. L. Reed, brother of B. Marion Reed of Funeral Home fame in Tampa. Anyway, here is an image of what appears to be a 1911 Gator varsity baseball team. It turns out the 1902 team was the Florida Agricultural College Cake (talk) 05:37, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
