  • Artist unknown, eh? Hmm. . . There aren't that many images of Schiller from life. I'd bet this is from a later drawing loosely based on the much-imitated 1794 bust by Heinrich Danneker (which was copied several times, with variations, by Danneker himself, before being mass-produced later on). Those busts mostly have the head inclined to the left (his left, that is) rather than the right, but they're unique in having the long, messy hair, as in this drawing, rather than what appears in the early paintings (as in our articles).
