The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the illustration workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be improved or created for a Wikipedia article. Clicking the "New Request" button will bring you to a standard template for submitting requests, as well as general advice that should be followed.

    Advice to requesters

    All requests:

    • Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies.
      • If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
    • Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
    • If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

    SVG requests:

    • Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
    • Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.

    @NintenBOUND: Redrawing non-free images is prohibited per our non-free content policy. – Pbrks (t·c) 03:35, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand the reasoning behind this, and I'm not going to argue about it, but I'd like to ask a few questions to clear up any confusion: why is a PNG to SVG request on multiple images on character pages, such as the Yoshi and Elmer Fudd ones, when they aren't free images? Why are there SVG images on characters with presumably non-free images, such as Mr. Krabs or Marvin the Martian? Thank you for your time. NintenBOUND (talk) 13:50, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@NintenBOUND: The difference is that the copyright holder created those SVG images. If we can find SVG images that have been released by the copyright holder, then we can certainly upload them under fair-use, but we cannot redraw them ourselves. – Pbrks (t·c) 04:13, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you want the flag background to be slightly grey per the flag displayed or to make it just as blue as the canton?  Hwi.padam   21:41, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hwi.padam Change the color, but while the flag probably had various shades of blue from the beginning, it's now faded. I think #1e3850 would be appropriate. It would also be good to change a few details of the inscription, "1" is completely different, there is less space between the beginning and end of the lower inscription and the end of the material, the holes in the "o" are less rounded and there is less space between the letters and dots. Swiãtopôłk (talk) 19:58, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will change the color and try my best on the inscription. Since it was pretty much a handmade flag, it is practically impossible to find an exactly identical font. I will modify the paths for best resembling the original ensign.  Hwi.padam   22:39, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I found on the Flags of the World (FOTW) website that the Governor's Flag of the Turks and Caicos Islands from 1968 to 1999 is slightly different from the current Governor's Flag. This is the source image link on FOTW, but I can't find the corresponding SVG image on Wikimedia Commons. Can I request to create an SVG image of this old Governor's Flag? Thanks. -- Misaka Eikoto (talk) 04:46, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Discussion
I don't see the point of making an extra version of the flag.
The only differences I see, are
    1. the adjustment of colours of the Union Jack to the official colours
    2. the sea shell colouring
These differences can simply be explained by differences in technique, preference or style of the drawers. They do not point to a change in the flag itself. A simple and general referral to WP:FOTW (not a reliable source in itself) is not enough evidence to suggest the flags are different.

I don't see the point in updating this flag. [FOTW: Colonial flags of Macau] state that a blue background wasn't used before 1967. And that this design should never be used as the official flag of Portugese Macau. As stated in the request below, please show us reliable sources that prove the status of the flags first, or we'd better remove them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Groetjes, Peter (talkcontribs) 15:49, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the point in replacing the CoA.
    1. Both versions of the CoA are made by the same person, referring to FOTW. FOTW refers on the Macao - 1967 Colonial Flag Proposal page to a pdf with the official CoA, as stated in 1935. This looks pretty much like the current version.
    2. Your "correct version" has white and blue shields that are more than half shields, which looks to me as being highly unusual, and the white and blue waves go all over the place and have different widths, while these should be a regular wave pattern and have the same dimensions. That makes this "correct" version worse than the current one.
    3. The Colonial flags of Macao page on FOTW does not show any sources, but it specifically says that this is not an official flag at all, and should never be used as an official flag. Locals call it the Financial Times flag of Macao, because a tv-program used it.
So if there should be taken any action it is:
    • finding reliable sources to prove the official status of the flags in time.
    • If there are none: removal of the flags

Help with converting and replacing a logo file

    [edit]

Hello, I recently uploaded a logo for Shankh Air File:Shankh Air logo.webp in WebP format, but I’ve noticed that most logos on Wikipedia are in SVG format for better quality and scalability. Unfortunately, I don’t have the tools or experience to convert it to SVG as I am not used to uploading files to wikipedia commons. Could someone please help me convert the logo to SVG. Thank you Best Regards, AstuteFlicker (talk) 14:20, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That image does not appear to be free, as the graphic is fairly complex (I have started commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Shankh Air logo.webp). If that's true, it is prohibited on commons altogether and only allowed on enwiki for use in a low-resolution form (see WP:NFCC 3b). I don't see what would be gained by switching to a higher quality or infinitely-scalable format if it is required to use only lower-quality and smaller forms of it. After there is a accepted enwiki article about this airline (for example, Draft:Shankh Air moved to mainspace), then it would be allowed to host the lower-quality image here on enwiki for use in that article.
