Çığır (Kurdish: Serkanî,[2] Syriac: Serkani)[nb 1] is a village in the İdil District of Şırnak Province in Turkey.[4] The village is populated by Kurds of the Botikan tribe and had a population of 1,878 in 2021.[1][2]
The hamlet of Gültepe is attached to Çığır.[4]
History
[edit]Serkani (today called Çığır) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox Assyrians.[3] It was inhabited by 200 Assyrians in 1914, according to the Assyro-Chaldean delegation to the Paris Peace Conference.[5]
