POTUS

I was always taught, and likewise teach my students, that the word president, when used to refer to POTUS, is always capitalized. It differentiates that high office from other presidents (corporations, home owners' associations, fan clubs, etc.). Using the lower case when referring to the President is a recent, inelegant, and troubling affectation. Newspapers, for whatever reason (an attempt to use less ink?), are the chief promoters of this practice. Unfortunately, it seems to have caught on. Mike, in an entirely more articulate way than I could have managed, explained this well both here and on your talk page. Personally, I don't really care. Wicked slick! I love it and it balances the colors much better. Of course, I can't really take credit for my own user page to begin with.
