Category:National Book Award for Fiction winning works
The "Fiction" National Book Award as covered here has been a single annual award conferred from 1936 to 1941 and from 1950 to date, except dual "hardcover" and "paperback" awards from 1980 to 1983.
Through 2011 (November) there have been 72 awards, with 75 winners because three were split.
Some other National Book Awards have recognized works of fiction. The National Book Award for Young People's Literature and preceding "Children's" awards have recognized many fiction books promoted for young people (children or young adults). Some awards in discontinued categories either always or sometimes recognized works of fiction for adults. See the main article for more information.
