Cobb's Comedy Club is a stand-up comedy venue founded in 1982. It's located at 915 Columbus Avenue in San Francisco's historic North Beach neighborhood. The club has been open for more than 30 years and has had many top comedians on its stage.[1][citation needed]

History

Originally known at Cobb’s Pub, Cobb’s Comedy Club was opened in 1982 on Chestnut Street in San Francisco’s Marina District. In 1987, Cobb’s Comedy Club relocated to the Cannery Shopping Center in the historic Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco neighborhood[2], where it thrived for over a decade with owner and booker Tom Sawyer. Revered by many as the ‘godfather’ of San Francisco’s comedy community, Sawyer went on to run Cobb’s Comedy Club for more than 25 years.

In March 2002 a five-alarm fire broke out at The Cannery[3]. Damage from the fire and subsequent flooding closed Cobb’s for a month before forcing Sawyer into a lawsuit which eventually resulted in the club’s eviction from the building[4]. With the help of some prominent comedian friends, Sawyer was able to raise enough money to reopen Cobb’s only seven months later in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood[5]. In November 2002, Cobb’s Comedy Club reopened at 915 Columbus Avenue in the rock club formerly known as Wolfgang’s, where it remains to this day.
