EAST has been approved by the AICTE, recognized by the government of Orissa, and affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Rourkela. The basic qualification for admission into degree programs is 10+2 years of study in Science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with 60% in aggregate.

Admission to all Bachelor degree programs is through the State conducted Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination). Students with Diploma qualification are also inducted into the degree program in the second year of study.
