Plot
James Hayes (Patrick Brammall) is a small town policeman in Yoorana, Victoria. He is called to the local cemetery in the middle of the night after seven people have inexplicably risen from the dead in perfect health. With no memory of their identities, they are determined to discover who they are and what has happened to them. James and one of them recognise each other, and along with local doctor Elishia McKellar (Genevieve O'Reilly), James struggles to keep the case hidden from his colleagues, his family, and the world. The seven people are all linked in some way, and the search begins for someone who knows the truth about how and why they have returned.[7]

When Sergeant Hayes is called to the cemetery late at night he finds six naked, filthy, disoriented people. He begins an investigation to work out who they are and is shocked to discover that one of them is his wife Kate, who had died two years before. The returned remember their first names, but all except Kate seem not to know their last names or who they are. Carlo, who speaks only Italian, realises who he is late in the episode and begins talking about his brother Alessandro. Dr McKellar happens to be treating a man named Alessandro who's in his 90's, so James takes Carlo to see him. On the road to Alessandro's house, Carlo begins bleeding from the eyes. When James stops to see if he's alright, Carlo leaves the car, having a flashback of his own death. As he crosses the bridge that seems to be some sort of invisible boundary marking the edge of town, he turns to ash. James goes back to the doctor's office and tells Dr McKellar what happened, asking her to keep it secret until they can learn more about what's occurring. While investigating James' strange behaviour, Vic finds Carlo's grave after witnessing his death on the bridge. In the penultimate scene of the episode, James heads home, and once he enters his home, it is shown he has a new partner, who is pregnant. As the episode comes to a close, another man is seen digging his way out of his grave.

Kate remembers she underwent a mastectomy, but now that she is back, so are her breasts. Dr McKellar runs some tests on her and does not find any irregularities, meaning Kate's cancer seems to have gone. The man seen emerging from his grave at the end of the previous episode runs into a female change room. After being called in, James subdues him by hand-cuffing him. The Risen try to work out who they are and why they have returned. Meanwhile James is torn between his two loves and turns to Vic for help. Fearing for their safety, Elishia hides the Risen. Vic has an accident while driving his car, but he seems to be left with only a bruise on his forehead.

Vic is behaving very strangely after his accident, and James is desperate to track down the Risen. He finds Maria down in a church after being called in. She tells him to take her to see her husband, who is suffering dementia and is in hospital, in exchange for her taking him to where the rest of the Risen are hidden. During the visit, her husband calls her 'whore', distressing her and prompting her to remember a scene in which a boy tried to caress her legs. Maria and James go to see that boy, now an old man, and when Maria asks what happened on that occasion, he says that he got slapped. James asks him how Maria died, and he replies 'in a car accident'. Meanwhile, Elisha and the rest of the Risen realise that there is an invisible boundary around the town, while Paddy has a revelation about his identity. Kate and James spend the night together. As the episode comes to a close, Maria is crying at her daughter's tomb, and Vic approaches her saying he has been looking for her to help her.
