It spent four weeks in the UK Top 40.

Writing and composition

"I Got You" was written by Arnthor Birgisson, Max Martin and Savan Kotecha, and produced by Birgisson.[1] It is an R&B and pop song set in common time composed in a moderate tempo of 104 beats per minute,[2][3] written in G major with a vocal range from the tone of G3 to the note of A5.[2][3]

Promotion

The first live performance of "I Got You" was at Lewis's one-off private gig at the Hackney Empire in London on 2 November 2009.[4] She has performed it live on The National Lottery Draws in the UK on 2 December 2009,[5] as part of a set list on the BBC Radio 2 show Live Sessions with Ken Bruce,[6] on Late Show with David Letterman on 15 December 2009,[7] on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge and on So You Think You Can Dance on 6 February 2010.[8] She performed "I Got You" on GMTV on 22 February, and This Morning on 25 February.[9] It was also performed on the Alan Titchmarsh show on 26 February.

Music video

The music video for "I Got You" was shot on 21 December 2009,[10][11] directed by Dave Meyers in Venice Beach, California.[12] It premiered on 12 February 2010. The video shows several couples who end their relationships, but ends with images suggesting healing and new relationships.[13]

Critical reception

Critical reviews by contemporary critics have been mixed. Mayer Nissim of Digital Spy awarded the song three stars out of five, saying, "the production and melody don't do enough to distinguish the song from countless other MOR pop ballads of recent years".[14] Fraser McAlpine from the BBC also gave the song three out of five stars, saying, all in reference to "Run": "This, oddly enough, is the result of the same procedure, only turned on its head. Instead of Leona making a Snow Patrol song her own, this is a Leona song remade in the image of Snow Patrol".[15]
