List of Chinese administrative divisions by illiteracy rate
According to the The sixth population census in 2010 the overall literacy rate in the People's Republic of China was 95.92 %. In the different regions the illiteracy rate varies considerably, though. The following is a list of the first-level administrative divisions of the People's Republic of China (P.R.C.), including all provinces, autonomous regions, special administrative regions and municipalities, in order of their officially reported illiteracy rate for people aged 15 and above in 2010.
Taiwan, which is governed by the Republic of China (R.O.C.) on Taiwan, is given for comparison purposes.
The figures are from the 2010 census published by the Bureau of Statistics of the PRC. The Hong Kong(2002), Macau(2001), and Taiwan figures are 2003 figures from the CIA World Factbook.
