The outspoken comic opened the show surrounded by pyjama-clad girls and was rude to Craig David, Boris Becker and anyone else whose name he could pronounce. The show was the highest rated until 2007 and was one of the first entertainment broadcasts following the September 11th attacks in New York.
Performances included Depeche Mode with "Never Let Me Down Again", Rammstein with "Ich Will" and Kylie Minogue with a futuristic version of "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" which kicked off the show. Jay-Z performed his track "Girls, Girls, Girls" surrounded by bevvy of beauties and to salute U2, Craig David took to the stage with a version of "Walking Away" that he blended with verses of U2's "One".
Treatment Action Campaign picked up the Free Your Mind Award for their HIV/AIDS work.
