RØDE Microphones, based in Silverwater, New South Wales, Australia, is a company, established in 1967 by Henry and Astrid Freedman, that designs and manufactures microphones and related accessories. They were one of the first companies outside of China to use Chinese microphone components.[citation needed] Their microphones are used in professional and project studios, sound reinforcement, video, film, and vocal performance.
In 1994 the company began exporting to the United States, and by 1998 it exported to 31 countries and overseas sales accounted for over 95% of revenue.[1] The company also conducted joint research with the CSIRO's National Measurement Laboratory. In 1999 at the Premier's Exporter of the Year Awards the company was named the Exporter of the Year and received the Small to Medium Innovative Manufacturer award.[2] In 2006, RØDE acquired American studio monitor manufacturer Event Electronics. - In January, 2006, RØDE won the Electronic Musician magazine Editor's Choice award for its NT2-A studio condenser microphone. [4]
- April 2006, RØDE's NT2-A microphone won World's Best Studio Microphone at the prestigious Musikmesse International Press Award (MIPA) in Frankfurt, Germany. [5]
- June, 2006, RØDE's Podcaster microphone won an Australian Design Award. [6]
