Comments[edit]

For Smoth 007 and any other interested party--I think it can be seen that I am expanding this article as quickly as I am able. There is a lot of history to cover, however, including its B-29 service in WWII and it's SR-71 operations. This is part of a greater project recording the history of the 9th Bomb Group, which is also half completed. I am writing that one on my user page, but since this article existed in rudimentary form already, I am more or less compelled to write it as I go. I appreciate the temporary inclusion of the U-2 trainer role currently performed by the 1st RS at Beale--I may add a snippet to expand upon that role until the rest of the history is written. However, I will not be doing the 9th Reconnaissance Wing page. Too many articles in Wiki have confused the wing for the group and vice versa--my format not only avoids that but I hope clears up any confusion (I am almost done with a rewriteof the 1st Fighter/1st Operations Group--but again, am not going into the 1st Fighter Wing). Any help in writing the 9th RW article to complete the linkage net would be appreciated.Buckboard 16:08, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

I reorganized the article, finished the sections, and removed the stub.Buckboard 07:46, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Emblems[edit]

I see that Bwmoll has added the 100th anniversary emblem to the infobox. If anyone can find them, there are two early emblems that could be added. Along with other squadrons that saw combat in WW I, an aircraft marking was approved in November 1918 (and had been used earlier) for the 1st Aero Squadron. It was an American Flag rippling as if in the wind. Because use of the flag in this manner was soon prohibited, the flag marking was abandoned. I have also seen pictures of a plane assigned to the 1st Aero Squadron in the early 1920s bearing a disc with a winged number 1 inside an annulet. It is black and white, so I cannot tell the colors, but the number, wings, and annulet are in a light color (yellow or white?) on a medium colored disc. I do not know if this emblem received official approval before the caveman was adopted, but it was used.--Lineagegeek (talk) 14:34, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have 2 other early emblems, One being the American Flag (which is also depicted on two photographs I added), and another shown in Clay's Volume 3, US Army Order of Battle. They are, however, black and white drawings which I just chose not to add. In addition, there are several other modern emblems here: www.usafpatches.com. The result of the move request was: No consensus. The article remains without a disambiguator.-- Bwmoll3 (talk) 02:16, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

1st Reconnaissance Squadron1st Reconnaissance Squadron (USAF) – It has been suggested to add a disambiguator to this page, the reason stated is that There have been many 1st recon squadrons in both land and air formations. Requesting your comments and viewpoints on this prior to the article being renamed.Bwmoll3 (talk) 08:45, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can we please see examples of these other 1st Reconnaissance Squadrons?--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 23:17, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree with RightCowLeftCoast. It seems reasonable enough to disambiguate if there are (or have been) other entities called "1st Reconnaissance Squadron", so I'd support this move if there's some coverage of other similarly-named squadrons on wikipedia (or if somebody's likely to write them up shortly). Otherwise, there's nothing to disambiguate. bobrayner (talk) 02:46, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Agree that there is a need to disambigate. That's why there is a hatnote with a link to 1st Reconnaissance Squadron (disambiguation), which provides links to the four other AAF/USAF squadrons that have held the designation 1st Reconnaissance Squadron and have Wikipedia articles. Since this unit is clearly the most notable of the five units, I believe the current disambiguation scheme is the most appropriate alternative. If there are units from other than the AAF/USAF (a World War II armor or cavalry unit?) anyone is free to add them to the DAB article. (Full disclosure I created the DAB page some months ago because of the multiple units to hold this designation ).
By the way, the multiple use of nn Reconnaissance Squadron designation is not unique to the 1st. Midway down on my priority list is seeing which others have their own Wiki articles and adding hatnotes or disambiguation pages based on notability. For low numbered units at least two exist that may have their own articles. One created 1936-1942, attached to a bombardment group, and redesignated as a Bombardment Squadron in the 391-421 block and one redesignated later in 1942, formerly an Observation Squadron and later redesignated as a Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. --Lineagegeek (talk) 18:39, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
