Scope[edit]

The scope of "Ancient history of Sri Lanka" is for all practical purposes identical with that of Anuradhapura Kingdom. This article appears to be discussing various proto-historic invasions and origin theories, not actual ancient history. This might best be recast in terms like "origin of the Sinhalese" and "early epigraphy in Sri Lanka" and "Pali chronicles of Sri Lanka" or similar. --dab (𒁳) 13:29, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SCOPE: Indeed - this article would be better titled 'Origins of Sinhalese' or 'History of the Sinhalese according to the Mahavamsa'. It completely relegates the Tamil population to almost a footnote at the end of the article, and even then, a purely Mahavamsa-centric view of Tamils. The entirety of Veddha, Tamil, and Muslim histories are missing. Definitely needs to expand the scope. BIAS: This article is written from the perspective of one Sri Lankan ethnic group and needs to be broadened to include the histories of the entire country. For example, both the Jaffna and Kandyan Kingdoms are not mentioned here.

Mahavamsa tradition[edit]

This entire section seems to be sourcing from copyrighted material of Encyclopedia Britannica. Also its reference are not properly cited, and odd statements seem to be made. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.35.67.130 (talk) 15:02, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Workpace[edit]

Does anyone intend to use any material from Talk:Ancient history of Sri Lanka/Workpage. If not, it should probably go to Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion. Much of the content on the page is poorly-sourced OR by a now-blocked user. utcursch | talk 16:07, 2 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
