Photography Issues

[edit]

Not happy with the photograph. The "half-aircraft" effect is unsettling and "facing" it into the article doesn't work particularly well as the lead photograph. I have moved it down to the "collapse" section of text it illustrates. It would be great to have a good sharp picture for the lead of an aircraft facing left. --Jumbo 10:28, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Issues

[edit]

The {{{2}}} {{{3}}} is not vandalism or anything like that, but a thing that has appeared when I put on the airline infobox. Can someone please remove it, because I do not know why it is there.--M Johnson 08:47, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Regional Entities and survival post collapse

[edit]

This article fails to mention that ansett subsiduries Hazelton and Kendell Airlines did survive the collapes of ansett know know as Regional Express (Rex) Airlines. (unsigned comment)

I'm working through the sections of this article relating to the demise and administration, progressively updating these as I go (along with related articles). I'll check this out on my next pass and respond accordingly. thewinchester 14:15, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I shifted the Ansett article to the Ansett Australia name, as this was the trading name of the airline prior to its bankruptcy and liquidation. --Arnzy (whats up?) 14:15, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Double redirects have been identified and have changed the redirects to the appropriate article. --Arnzy (whats up?) 22:15, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ansett traded as Ansett Australia domestically, and Ansett International internationally, I think the article should remain as Ansett. --kjd 03:47, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
When Ansett was flying domestically and internationally, all planes had "Ansett Australia" on the livery, tickets, promotions and so on, thus I think this name would be appropriate. --Arnzy (whats up?) 00:13, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ansett revival

[edit]

I would really like to understand the link between the old and the new. Is the new merely trading on the name of the old or is there a connection?--A Y Arktos\talk 02:11, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is absolutely no connection with the new proposed airline, with Ansett's name. Ansett 12:48, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So why are they calling it Ansett - merely trading on an established busines name?--A Y Arktos\talk 20:13, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There was a link to them in the article, and i've subsequently removed it. thewinchester 14:15, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

true or fake?

[edit]

[1]

Is this fake? And if not should it be included in the article? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.82.206.194 (talk) 06:48, 22 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

WikiProject class rating

[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 15:23, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AUD?!

[edit]

Can we remove all the references to money with the A or AUS or AUD on them and put a tag at the top saying all prices are quoted in Australian dollar cause reading it and seeing all the prices with the A infront is quite irritating, I would understand if the bulk were in another currency but it seems pointless to have ALL the money with AUD tags, Taifarious1 04:48, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Destinations

[edit]

Many of the destinations need to be disambiguated. I have done a few, but don't have the time or the knowledge to do them all. I would note that with Australian place names, it is almost always best to link to [[Placename, State]], in order to avoid linking to either a disambiguation page, or (for example with Tamworth) to a place in a different continent. DuncanHill (talk) 13:31, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Used WikiCleaner to update piped links to current pages. Have worked in the travel industry for 30 yrs, so I hope most of the updated links, destination-wise, should be correct. Funandtrvl (talk) 07:35, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gary Toomey

[edit]

Doesn't this article deserve a dishonorable mention to the former CEO Gary Toomey? Looks like his is now the CEO of Airlines PNG, god only knows how he landed that job. Ansett (talk) 08:50, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disability discrimination

[edit]

This airline was extremely bad at discriminating against disabilities! They used to treat their less fortunate passengers like crap and make them embarrased to the point that other passengers would try to comfort them in flight! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.72.216.229 (talk) 00:59, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

News Corp ownership

[edit]

Can anyone explain why News Corp, a media conglomerate, owned 50% of an airline? I'm sure there was a strategy, but what? Matt's talk 06:14, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lots of interesting history missing.

[edit]

Wot about the Catalina flying boat services to, for example, Lord Howe Island? This was pioneering stuff in its day. And the association with MMA (McRobertson Miller) in Western Australia. The disastrous strategy of Peter Abeles of purchasing virtually one-off planes because they were available cheaply, which left Ansett with an almost unmanageable variety (and maintenance burden) of aircraft. These are all a big part of Ansett's history? Old_Wombat (talk) 09:02, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am pretty sure that the Lord Howe Island service was operated by British Short Bros. Sunderland or Sandringham aircraft not Catalinas.Eregli bob (talk) 07:33, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Absurd comments

[edit]

"Ansett Airways remained a bit player as TAA and ANA battled for supremacy in the 1940s and 1950s. TAA, being blatantly favored by the then Labor Federal Government (which had unsuccessfully attempted to nationalise all Australian domestic airlines), better managed and having better aircraft partly as a result of the Federal Labor Government granting access to U.S. funds to TAA, whilst refusing them to A.N.A., had driven ANA to the verge of bankruptcy by 1957."

Well the "then Labor Federal Government" lost office in 1949, which was a year after TAA was established. So any Government favouritism against ANA, leading to ANA being on the verge of bankruptcy in 1957, would be the responsibility of the Liberal/Country Federal Government which was in office from 1949 and throughout the 1950's.Eregli bob (talk) 07:31, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ansett was a bit player in terms of aircraft. However, Reg had made a shoot load of money out of US military contracts during WW2, and was concentrating on road transport, and manufacturing. When ANA got into serious strife and Holyman died, Reg was waiting like a vulture. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.213.63.240 (talk) 06:49, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
