Speedy deletion declined: Buckeye Sun[edit]

Hello Funandtrvl, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Buckeye Sun, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: It's not a hoax or something just made up, it's just a little newspaper that serves a little town. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited American Medical News, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tabloid (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Nervous...[edit]

I see suddenly all my restaurant and chef article pass by on my watchlist. What is the general idea behind your efforts? Although I see hardly anything really strange (a few foreign restaurants moved to a cat with just two articles) but it still makes me a bit nervous. The Banner talk 21:47, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

All I did was organize their categories into "by country" relationships. Funandtrvl (talk) 21:51, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
Aha! It was just the sheer volume but I admit, I wrote a lot of restaurant articles. But your explanation will calm my nerves. Thanks for that. The Banner talk 21:55, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
Wow, you really did write a lot of articles! Too bad most of them are no longer in business, I'm sure they were great in their time. Funandtrvl (talk) 21:56, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
Times change, economics can play dirty tricks, relationships crash and chefs get older. That are the most common reasons to close restaurants... The Banner talk 20:03, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

by most ways of seeing the archipelago - and there have been some beauties at times (islands of the pacific and so on) - is in south east asia, and in most cases the 'australasia' and 'oceania' arguments of about 4 or 5 years ago have died down. there is also a new oceania project (relatively speaking)... so, have reverted your category of indonesia being in oceania - it isnt. cheers satusuro 01:32, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

OER inquiry[edit]

Hi Funandtrvl, I'm sending you this message because you're one of about 300 users who have recently edited an article in the umbrella category of open educational resources (OER) (or open education). In evaluating several projects we've been working on (e.g. the WIKISOO course and WikiProject Open), my colleague Pete Forsyth and I have wondered who chooses to edit OER-related articles and why. Regardless of whether you've taken the WIKISOO course yourself - and/or never even heard the term OER before - we'd be extremely grateful for your participation in this brief, anonymous survey before 27 April. No personal data is being collected. If you have any ideas or questions, please get in touch. My talk page awaits. Thanks for your support! - Sara FB (talk) 20:40, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Reversion of your edit to Clinton Road[edit]

Hi, I reverted your edit to Clinton Road. You cited MOS:layout as your reasoning for forcing sizes on all the images; however, WP:IMGSIZE says (as does MOS:IMAGES#Size) that images should be displayed with "thumb" set, leaving that up to the user to set in Preferences.

I grant that it also says images should be on the right. I generally disregard that, since it's easier on your eyes to alternate images as your eyes are already doing that to read (In fact research has shown that people generally read further along into a text illustrated with alternating images, for that reason). Daniel Case (talk) 22:06, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

The reason that I moved the "left" image to the right is because it is bunching up (and running into) the bullet list on the left. Also, when you use the mobile version of Wikipedia on one's smartphone, the images that are really large are a bit harder to surf around to get to the article, then they are on a regular PC's larger monitor, thus my effort to scale down the images. Funandtrvl (talk) 22:09, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
Yes; bulleted lists are one of my exemptions to that rule. As for smartphones, that's why there's a number of apps that handle images differently; forcing an image size makes it harder for them to work right. Daniel Case (talk) 00:26, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
Also, see how the page works differently on the mobile version of the site. Daniel Case (talk) 00:30, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

The Wikipedia Library: New Account Coordinators Needed[edit]

Hi Books & Bytes recipients: The Wikipedia Library has been expanding rapidly and we need some help! We currently have 10 signups for free account access open and several more in the works... In order to help with those signups, distribute access codes, and manage accounts we'll need 2-3 more Account Coordinators.

It takes about an hour to get up and running and then only takes a couple hours per week, flexible depending upon your schedule and routine. comment-tag dashes[edit]

I gave the tags four dashes so the requests made by the comments might be a little more likely to be seen (rather than assumed to be e.g. coding comments and passed over). What do you think..? Sardanaphalus (talk) 09:56, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I understand, but it is probably not necessary. I would just use the regular 2-dashed code. There are articles like "List of cities in Illinois" that I have on my watchlist, and there is not a week that goes by that someone doesn't put a village or town on the list, even though there are 4 lines of text explaining that there are several lists, based on the legal entity of the municipalities. Thus, no matter how hard you try, it seems to be a lost cause to get people to read instructions. Funandtrvl (talk) 17:44, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
  • Okay. I find the difference useful, but, as the above is a preload, the standard tags are probably best used in it. Regards, Sardanaphalus (talk) 00:36, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

Default sort[edit]

I notice in this change, you changed the default sort to be the same as the page title (give or take capitalization). Is there any reason to keep the DEFAULTSORT tag in there at this point? RobinHood70 talk 00:55, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I guess because of the capitalization? Or does it only matter if there are upper case words after lower case words? Funandtrvl (talk) 00:59, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
As far as I know, it only matters if there's some specific need to sort with different capitalization or spelling than the name of the page. Since there's no specific need here, I'll remove it. RobinHood70 talk 04:28, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
