Can someone help me find:

  1. more famous people born at the hospital, if there are more
  2. the Web homepage of the hospital, if it has one
  3. whether Ayrshire Central Hospital and Irvine Central Hospital are the same hospital. They share telephone numbers and addresses, but are listed as separate hospitals in a recent document found in the references.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran page for Ayrshire Central Hospital added to new infobox. As far as I can tell, they are two names for the same hospital, so I have moved the revised article here which appears to be the current name. Finavon 00:08, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ayrshire Central Hospital has always been the official name. Irvine Central Hospital is an unofficial colloquial name. Strictly speaking the address of the hospital on birth and death certificates is influenced by where in the hospital the event happened. The area of the hospital south of the Red Burn is in the Royal Burgh of Irvine. In contrast the remainder of the hospital which is north of the Red Burn is in the Burgh of Kilwinning. The Red Burn continues to mark where Irvine and Kilwinning strictly end and until 1975 it also marked where the jurisdiction of the Royal Burgh of Irvine Town Council ended.

My Great Grandmother died at the hospital in 1969 and her death place is clearly recorded as Ayrshire Central Hospital, Kilwinning - as that portion of the hospital is strictly speaking in Kilwinning. In contrast anyone born in the Maternity Pavilion (including me) will be shown as being born at Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine as the now demolished Maternity Pavilion was strictly speaking in Irvine.80.42.252.234 (talk) 18:05, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good work, thanks for improving it. I think the most sensible explanation is that the hospital changed its name from Irvine to Ayrshire or that it was always known by both names. I will now remove the article from the "needing attention" category. NerdyNSK 02:26, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but I have removed the donations section as this looked like an advertisement and isn't really relevant as the sums involved are tiny compared to the overall budget. I think that mention should be made of the other units at the hospital: such as the disability centre etc - clearly there is a lot of work to do...good luck! I have amended the date the hospital opened to 1941. A relative used to work there and has a 50th Anniversary set of playing cards and mug. I have also checked with my copy of Strawhorn's History of Irvine and he states at p194 "Ayr County Council....began building Ayrshire Central Hospital in KIlwinning Road in 1936." At page 204 he states that "Ayrshire Central Hospital, opened in stages from 1941." He goes on to say that by the end of the second world war they were able to close the old Irvine Burgh Fever Hospital. 80.42.252.234 (talk) 14:47, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
