Untitled[edit]

Need to add reference to Edward Braddock. He played a significant role in the fight (earlier, in 1755) to take Fort Duquesne during the French and Indian War. Washington traveled in his company. 71.245.164.83 (talk) 22:41, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

British victory[edit]

a) since this is the main article on it Forbes expedition, it should be renamed. Be a revised to emphasize that this was a campaign to capture the fort, and (b) the British were entirely successful because the French and their Indian allies abandoned the ford, and abandon the entire Ohio Valley to the British. That means the main goal of the Forbes expedition was a total success. I added some better cites Rjensen (talk) 13:16, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The introduction already states in precise terms that the French ceded control of the Ohio Valley to the British. The phrase, Despite the defeat at one battle, the ultimate result was a total victory for the British strategy of taking control of the Ohio Valley (passing over all its other flaws) is pure editorializing and has been removed. Yes, an entire victory. Not because the British won against the French. The French crushed the invaders. But because at the French Court, in Versailles, important peoples -Pompadour, the king's mistress and intellectuals around her- thought that it was depriving to fight for "some arpents of snow" (quelques arpents de neige !) and stop to finance the war. 2600:1700:D900:F080:1465:2599:72BE:8CBA (talk) 00:10, 14 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
