References[edit]

This article is desperately in need of references. —Mira 03:36, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

At least for the broadcast list, in the table format I'm working on (see this), I'll provide a link to as many station websites as I can find to support the data. Won't be perfect, but it's a start.   --   Huntster (TalkContribsEmail) 17:43, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Great. I would suggest using reference format, though, as the external links in the article already use it. —Mira 02:16, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I've been battling back and forth as to which format would be best. Reference format is more uniform, but probably is rarely used, while inline links are more "usable" but muddy the waters. I'll experiment both ways though. Huntster «TalkContribsEmail» 04:35, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can you put the link for VrakTV's schedlue, I gave you, under under "References" and also put it beside where I typed under "Syndication"? What I mean by that is putting the little number beside VarkTV. Just so it matches TNT and Showcase Diva's schedules. Thanks! Robinepowell 12:56, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This has been taken care of. Sorry it took so long, things have been busy for me. Cheers! -- Huntster T@C 06:21, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DVD cover[edit]

The Season Two DVD cover doesn't work. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Crjeong (talkcontribs) 21:38, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

It looks fine to me... —Mira 02:43, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've opened this page on a few computers and it doesn't work on any of them.
File:Char-s2-blank.jpg
Crjeong 06:25, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, if this is the case, and you have an image that *does* work properly (and from my side, does appear identical to the current one), then do this: upload your working copy to the server and give it the same filename as the one already being used. This will overwrite it and no code changes will be necessary on any of the pages that use it. Just be sure to give it proper DVD credit information like you have been. When there is a conflict of this nature, it's always good to explain your actions. Other editors won't get annoyed with you and the peace is kept. Welcome to Wikipedia, I hope you enjoy your stay! Don't hesitate to ask for assistance in the future if you need it. Huntster «TalkContribsEmail» 11:41, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I finally got that Season Two DVD cover working. For some reason it wouldn't work just replacing the image, so I had to change the coding. Crjeong 05:37, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I re-uploaded your version of the image; returned the filename to original and designated it as a DVD. Remember that when you upload covers in the future to specify under "Licensing" that it is a DVD Image. Same goes with any image...always specify what type of license that image can be used under, else it will be deleted (also, it is good form to keep a similar filename structure as other images in the set, instead of giving it a new name). As for the Charmed-s2.jpg image, just leave it alone and it will automatically be deleted, as it is unused and unlicensed. Out of curiosity, what exactly did you change in the image...I could find no differences structure-wise. Huntster «TalkContribsEmail» 07:01, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, this is getting really strange, It appears that it may have to do with the actualy coding, because it's no longer working. It doesn't seem to like "Char-s2.jpg" as a filename. However when it was called "Charmed-s2.jpg" it did work. I dunno what's going on. Oh well, if everyone else is able to see it, then I guess I'll just leave it as it is. Crjeong 08:45, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, no, if you can't see it, then it needs to be fixed, and I'll gladly fix it. However, what browser or browsers have you tried to view it with, and was it the same program/version on each computer? This is becoming a very odd mystery, given that jpg files are generally supposed to be universal formats, so I'm wondering if it isn't some unique setup on the computer-side that isn't causing the problem. Is it also not visible on List of Charmed episodes? Huntster «TalkContribsEmail» 09:34, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've tried both Internet Explorer 6 and 7. I doubt it's a jpeg problem, since all the other covers work fine. It's also not visible on the List of Charmed episodes page. Initially I thought that it may have something to do with my computer/s, I've cleared all the temporary internet folders and caches so that everything should be loaded again, but I'm still getting the same problem. I think it may just be a coding problem. Like I said before, it worked when it was called "Charmed-s2.jpg". So I don't know why this is happening. It's one stange problem! Crjeong 05:16, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, situation resolved. Still don't understand the problem, but c'est la vie. Thanks for working out this issue as you have instead of going about a revert war as might otherwise happen. Been a pleasure ;) Huntster «TalkContribsEmail» 19:04, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TBA issue and unsourced dates[edit]

Okay, people are going wild with how to format To Be Announced dates, both in form and code. There needs to be some kind of absolute form to use. I propose that TBA be used for *anything* that hasn't had a firm date announced/leaked. So, no "TBA, 2006", no "Month, Year", even if a general statement has been made (as has been with Season 8 in Region 1...stated to be available by Christmas '06). Strictly TBA until something firm is given. Concur?

Another quick issue: would it be reasonable to revert if someone posts a date without sourcing it? Any situation where this wouldn't be appropriate? Huntster «TalkContribsEmail» 18:42, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

On the TBA thing, I agree. As for reverting, I see no problem with removing unsourced material at any time. However, it would be polite to at least note in the edit summary that the material is being removed because it is unsourced, and that it can and will be re-added if a source is provided. If you wanted to go the extra mile, you could also leave a note to that effect on the user's talk page. —Mira 04:47, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good thoughts. My problem is that I don't feel the need to tell an anon IP jack (and those are who do the most of this kind of edit), since they can't even bother to take the simple step of registering...but that's just me, and I'll get over it, as you are correct in that it is the best thing to do. Unless I hear a convincing argument opposing, I'll impliment this. Huntster «TalkContribsEmail» 09:04, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TBA versus TBR[edit]

  • To me, an image cannot be "announced". Well, there can be an announcement about the image, but when the image itself is shown for the first time, it is, in my eyes, "released".
Does anyone else, besides Huntster and myself, have a preference?a> binthemix.talk_ 01:18, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I can say that the first time I saw TBR used was just recently (on a different Charmed article here, actually), and it took me until quite a while later before I figured out what it meant. TBA may be preferable for simplicity's sake. —Mira 02:15, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
TBA really should be used, because it isn't the image itself that is being announced, its the DVD cover illustration (and yes, they are generally 'announced' in a sort of press release). In any case, TBA and TBD are the traditional terms to use when referring to a future event or date that is unspecified, and TBD definitely would not fit this example. At least, I've never heard of others :) ···Q Huntster T@C 04:01, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I just looked on my master resource for all things Acronym, Acronym Finder, and that particular usage of TBR isn't there. Just a thought. ···Q Huntster (T)@(C) 04:09, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Season 8 DVD Cover[edit]

While on Ebay looking for Charmed DVDs I came across the Season 8 DVD cover from China. The cover had This picture and it was a electric blue-ish and black.--Dil 06:06, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

These discs, and their covers, are almost certainly the work of pirates. When you look at the DVD info, you see Region Code Free, meaning it can be played on any DVD player without restriction. This is probably a good indicator, given that distributors enforce region codes, in part, to keep pirate distribution from Asian countries to a minimum. These are probably satellite rips, which are fairly high quality, but are definitely not authorized or legal. It *is* possible they are legit, given that the real distribution DVDs are probably now in the pressing stage and someone in-factory might have absconded with a few, but this is very slim. Just my own experience. -- Huntster T@C 10:43, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually the DVDs are real but have absolutely no extras [why it came out so fast in asia]. I bought it as a collector's item from ebay and its 100% genuine! the reason why asia get all dvds first is because they are made cheaper over there! I however do not think it should be included on wikipedia because its not 100% official! Generation Talk123
I removed the cover art because it has not been proven that this will be the cover art for either the region 1 set or the region 2 set! It is just the cover art for the german edition so I feel this should be included on a german site not an english one. There is a reason why only region 1 and 2 cover art is only included! Generation Talk123
If you wish to distiguish that this is the German edition of Region 2, that's fine, but German DVD covers are historically always the same as other Region 2 editions, so leave the image there until we get an English version. Germany is part of Region 2, so it's illustrative value is the same in the interum. -- Huntster T@C 20:53, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I know it is part of Region 2 but it is a little strange that we would be able to see the German R2 cover before the UK R2 cover, the cover can change, for example Bad Girls - Series 8. The only reason why I removed is because it has German text on it and the Official English Cover should be the one only included! Also there can be slight differences between the German and English edition. I just feel that we should wait for the official English cover to be released as some people looking for information on Charmed could mistake this for the official cover for the UK and become a little confused when they see German text as schools use wikipedia too! Generation Talk123
Let me work in reverse here, as I feel particularly strong about that last point: if schools of any kind are using Wikipedia as a primary resource, then they are doing a grave disservice to their students. Wikipedia is a second-tier resource, highly useful as a jumping off point for finding other resource material, but should not (in my opinion) be used as an official tool. It's just not mature enough yet.
Beyond that, So what if the language on the cover is German, do you seriously think someone would become confused and think that all covers in all regions would have German text on them? No, the images are purely for indentification purposes only, to show the differences between the different regions. At the moment, this German cover is the only official one I've been able to locate, and for the time being should be left there, again, for identification purposes. Besides, as I mentioned previously, there are historically no differences between the German and English R2 covers, at least, none that I could see in my review.
However, when we get an English Region 2 cover, we can overwrite this image to properly show R2. If we get a Region 1 image that looks different from this one, then lets keep it until another R2 image becomes available, again, to show the difference between covers. I just don't think it's that complicated. What I'll do though is make a specific notation that this is the German cover, if you think that'll help. -- Huntster T@C 22:07, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, it's just that a friend of mine was using wikipedia to see if the cover had been confirmed yet and she became confused when she saw German text on it, she doesn't usually use wikipedia but yeah schools do use wikipedia because most information sites are blocked for some strange reason, so they use wikipedia when a student wants to write like a review on a celebrity and/or TV Show. Generation Talk123

Eh? What information sites are blocked? That's more than a little bizarre! I would still strongly dissuade any school from allowing Wikipedia as a source. In any case, I've added a note that this is the German title, so there should be no more confusion. Hopefully more will become available soon (especially since Australia and The Netherlands now have established release dates). -- Huntster T@C 23:32, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My school got a new webcensoring program this year and any site that isnt specifically allowed by them is blocked, so we're forced to use wikipedia for a lot of reports/essays. Even links from the wikipedia page to an articals references are sometimes blocked if the school hasnt allowed that site. --Malevious 00:15, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, makes me glad I was in school before the internet became so regulated. Though, as uncensored as Wikipedia is (intentionally, I might add), I'm highly surprised that it is not blocked as well. -- Huntster T@C 00:46, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well the teachers are pretty dumb! lol. They have blocked ALL music sites and anything involving general interest. Some information sites we need are blocked and some teachers are complaining about it. Generation Talk123

Countries removed from syndication[edit]

I'm wondering why Hungary was removed from syndication info. On what basis was it removed? AdamDobay 16:46, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not exactly sure. I believe that Robin removed it (and others) because nothing could be found on the broadcaster website relating to current airings, but I might be mistaken in that. Please re-add if you know current data, or I will when I'm able to do an analysis (since I don't read/write/speak Hungarian ;) -- Huntster T@C 20:29, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well since the Hungarian title has nothing to do with Charmed (Bűbájos boszorkák) and contains a character untypable on English keyboards, no wonder you couldn't find anything. The show's reruns are airing just fine (as noted in the text before they were removed), so I'll just put that back and perhaps put in a Hungarian TV schedule website link. AdamDobay 11:12, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't looked myself, but using non-english characters is not a problem for me. Anyway, yeah, please do replace it with the appropriate info, or pull the records from history. -- Huntster T@C 14:59, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Season 8 DVD Release[edit]

I live in England and am waiting for the Region 2 version of Season 8 to be released, but then someone sent a letter to a local newspaper asking when it would be realesed. The newspaper told this person about the Charmed season 1-8 Chest and didn't even mention a single season 8 boxset! Does this mean that a Region 2 season 8 will only be available with 7 other seasons! If so, after collecting seasons 1-7, I will be very annoyed! Bubble bunny

As insane as it may seem, this appears to be a distinct possibility. Amazon.co.uk has no mention of a "complete eighth season", and surely some mention would have been made on the site before now. I suppose we just have to wait and see. -- Huntster T@C 13:56, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If that happens in region 1 too, ima be mad since i bought all the other 7seasons :| --Malevious Userpage •Talk Page• Contributions 15:20, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They're NUTS!!! This is being completely unfair to the Charmed fans who have bought each individual DVD box set! Besides, just imagine the money they'd miss out on! The Chest costs over £200, how many people will be willing to pay that much! Bubble bunny
The 8th season is due for release on 30/04/2007 according to Play.com and that's the Region 2 version. So that's okay, right? And Bubble Bunny, i'm going to buy the chest because each single season costs around £60, so paying £220 for all 8 means i save around £260 which since i only have season 4 at the moment, is really value for money. DVD Covers[edit]

Does anyone think that having the DVD covers on this page qualifies under the fair-use laws? They should be here to illustrate the differences in regions. --Malevious Userpage •Talk Page• Contributions 19:45, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While I personally desperately want to save these covers, and screencaps on "List of ... episodes" pages, such usage does fail Wikipedia's fair use policy, and thus they are going away. I don't like it, and believe it foolish to withhold a valuable resource, but it is what it is. -- Huntster T@C 22:48, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They may not qualify on the LOE page, but having them here should since we discuss the differences in regions, using them to illustrate that should qualify them for fair-use. --Malevious Userpage •Talk Page• Contributions 22:51, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to pursue this issue, by all means speak to some admins and get some options. Personally, I'm done slamming my head into this particular brick wall, which is what it has felt like trying to talk to people myself. I've found its either allnothing or nothing with them. -- Huntster T • @ • C 23:18, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Board games[edit]

Should we make note of the Charmed RPG/board games that have been released? I'm not certain whether they were officially released or not, but I know they exist. I believe three editions have been released in Europe. Considering the possibility that the proprietors of Charmed have a strict license on releasing Charmed merchandise, making these board games legit/official, it may be worth investigating to determine whether they are notable enough to add to this article. TJ 08:07, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

If they can be determined as being legit, then it warrants a mention, but if it is some fan release or unauthorised, I don't think there's any reason to include it. Huntster (t@c) 20:43, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
