Environmental icon[edit]

I added the Environmental icon section, with previously deleted material, because the use of Chessie for environmental advocacy is significant, a somewhat unusual role to assign to a cryptid. "Alleged Sightings" Needs to be Rewritten[edit]

Like many articles of its kind on Wikipedia, a significant amount of this article needs to be rewritten from an etic perspective (see emic and etic). Currently, much of it is written more like an episode of the X-Files than a serious study. While that's fun, what we need here are peer-reviewed secondary sources where academics—specifically folklorists—discuss the figure. As with many figures of its type, there's often a lot more going on than meets the eye and this only becomes clear with a serious study rather than a compilation of "sightings".

That said, good to see the "environmental icon" and "popular culture" sections, those sections are good and should be expanded. :bloodofox: (talk) 18:48, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
