2004 elections[edit]

I removed the following passage:

In the 2004 elections, Horlivka, in common with much of eastern Ukraine, voted heavily in favour of Viktor Yanukovych, and was the scene of a rally in his support on November 23 2004, attended by approximately 15,000 people.

And the reasons are:

  • if we notice Yanukovych's election results in every respective city page (including cities where people have been forced to support him), Jimbo Wales would soon run out of servers :)
  • the rally of 15,000 people is too small even for Horlivka, not to mention irrelevant, not to mention they were gathered forcibly.

I'll state for the record that I wasn't deliberately POV-pushing when I included that passage - it was simply that it was one of the few facts I could gather about the city through casual googling! I know very little about Ukrainian politics - I couldn't begin to comment on whether the people were "gathered forcibly" - but your main point makes sense and I'm happy to accept that that paragraph should be left out. --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 21:14, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why no mention of its website?[edit]

Russian name of the city[edit]

The phrase

"also known by its Russian name Gorlovka[2] (Russian: Горловка) or Gorlowka[3] while a part of the Soviet Union"

puts the name Gorlovka in the past, when the article itself states that 85% of the city's population speak Russian.

A recent message from MSF calls the city Gorlovka, without qualification: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/feb/14/ukraine-msf-surgeon-perspective

It would be more accurate to say that the city is called Gorlovka by the vast majority of its inhabitants. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lcpaulson (talkcontribs) 11:29, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

HorlivkaGorlovka – This city is majority Russian-speaking, is in a majority Russian-speaking area, and is part of a rebel region that has Russian as its main language. The Russian name is preferd by English sources such as The Guardian, The Times of London, The New York Times, etc. Girrit (talk) 09:21, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox heading format[edit]

I have put the names of the city in the infobox into the same format as we use for Dnepropetrovsk. If you disagree, please discuss it here, rather than revert-warring.-- Toddy1 (talk) 11:03, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
