Hey everybody, I've been thinking, wasn't this movie a box office bomb (and a big one at that) by any chance? It says all over the web that its budget was 8 million euros and it grossed just over $2.3 millions worldwide so I'd figure out that much. However, from what I've seen on Czech websites (and as much as I could understand from them) it really doesn't look like the film flopped in any way, quite the contrary. So, what's the story exactly? Re: Jaro's question. The takings are similar to many other films on the list of previous Czech Oscar submissions, though this has a much higher budget. Also the numbers are given as 2.3 million worldwide, 90 million CZK in the Czech Republic - well based on the exchange rate at the time, the Czech box office would be almost the entire amount so I'm wondering if the Czech box office is included in the worldwide amount or if it's separate (if it's meant to be included then what about Slovakia, which might be expected to be somewhere up to a third of the Czech numbers). But also these kind of European films are not heavily dependent on the box office, they are made with state support and also support from TV companies who want to show them later (hence they are usually shot in 16:9 not letterbox) so the box office may be regarded as acceptable and there are also DVD sales. My interest is possibly not typical (being British living in Slovakia) but I first came across it as a Slovak person owned it on DVD - so it doesn't feel like a flop - if it was it would be pretty notorious as it was also the biggest budget. 85.237.234.44 (talk) 18:42, 1 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
