International acclaim?[edit]

All the sources are from India... This could do with a reference to a non Indian WP:RS or being changed to 'national' --86.167.18.242 (talk) 18:34, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That makes sense; I've changed it. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:20, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Location of cut through and length claims[edit]

There is a road near Gehlaur that is named after Dashrath and appears to have a small cut-through on it. Is this his cut-through? (http://goo.gl/maps/zER6G) Also, I find it hard to believe the claimed shortening of the distance between the blocks described in this article. If you look on Google maps the Atri and Wazirganj blocks are much farther than 1km away as the crow flies. Not sure how that claim can be substantiated. The previous editor raises a great point. A simple directions query in google maps compares the driving or walking distance from Atri/Atari to Wazirganj in Bihar - going across what is now DM Road, the shortest distance is 23 km. Alternate routes going around the mountains towards the west show distances of 33 or 40 km. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Atari,+Bihar,+India/Wazirganj,+Bihar,+India/@24.8493594,85.1351691,12z/data=!4m15!4m14!1m5!1m1!1s0x39f2dc0e53ba017f:0xe2823df99fa5b2b9!2m2!1d85.1984715!2d24.9383607!1m5!1m1!1s0x39f32043abc53c17:0x2016958e73dd94b3!2m2!1d85.2437841!2d24.8021749!3e0!5i1?hl=en

Alternatively, the route to Gaya from the village areas on the east side of the mountains, going south through Wazirganj is 35 km. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Dashrath+Manjhi+Rd,+Gehlaur,+Bihar+805131,+India/Gaya,+Bihar,+India/@24.8474032,85.1185732,12z/data=!4m19!4m18!1m10!1m1!1s0x39f2de4d26bfec2f:0x558918763c58fd01!2m2!1d85.2435891!2d24.8771281!3m4!1m2!1d85.2314493!2d24.8012776!3s0x39f320f5b2c9c6c5:0x8e274412f1147939!1m5!1m1!1s0x39f32a440a1b3c1f:0xcef6b223bdbf34a6!2m2!1d84.999431!2d24.7954523!3e0?hl=en

Cutting through the mountains and going out to the road near Gehlaur makes the trip 31 km - only about 4 km shorter. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Dashrath+Manjhi+Rd,+Gehlaur,+Bihar+805131,+India/Gaya,+Bihar,+India/@24.8333831,84.9735194,11z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x39f2de4d26bfec2f:0x558918763c58fd01!2m2!1d85.2435891!2d24.8771281!1m5!1m1!1s0x39f32a440a1b3c1f:0xcef6b223bdbf34a6!2m2!1d84.999431!2d24.7954523!3e2?hl=en — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xoxua (talkcontribs) 20:51, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that the medical facility in subject was not necessarily in Gaya itself, but much closer. I don't think a 10% road length reduction would justify 22 years of work. (Although some sources claim that his wife has died as a result of falling off the rock when trying to scale it in order to cross, so *that* could be the justifying reason, too.) -- Wesha (talk) 19:56, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Which additional categories?[edit]

This article would be more accessible to information searches with the addition of categories relating to the sphere of activity and consequences involved. Suggestion: Category:Mountain passes of India, Category:Roads in India, others? -- Deborahjay (talk) 09:26, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Conflicting Path Lengths in Article[edit]

In the article's lede it says the distance between the Atri and Wazirganj blocks was reduced from 55 km to 15 km. Later in the article it says the distance was reduced from 80 km to 3 km. The first claim does not seem to be substantiated by the citation it uses, and I can't understand the language of the citation for the second claim. What was the actual reduction in length, or how can we word the article so that there are not conflicting claims both being presented as fact? Zortwort (talk) 16:59, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
