Removed reference to man-in-the-middle attack[edit]

I removed this line:

The Man Who Ran Europe, published in The Black Cat in 1898, describes a Man in the Middle hacking attack utilizing a telegraph.

The problem is that a "man-in-the-middle attack" has a technical meaning. It is a way of circumventing asymmetric encryption, where encrypting for someone else to read is easier than decrypting what they've written. In this situation it is not even possible to even read what the two parties are saying without changing what is being transmitted, because you need to force the two parties to encrypt using your public key. I have just read this short story and that isn't what happened; the character could have read the messages just by being given eavesdropping without changing the signal. Frank L. PollackFrancis Pollock – Apologies for the past attempts at retitling this article. All printed work during Pollock's lifetime appears with his name spelt 'Pollock'. I accept that there is a distinction to be made with regard to the mixed use of Frank L. Pollock (see 1906's The Treasure Trail listed at http://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/008660056), but there appears to be little evidence besides an unfortunate contemporary typo in favour of listing him as Pollack. More sources can be marshalled if this feels unclear.

. Do not sign this. Relisted. Favonian (talk) 16:24, 8 July 2013 (UTC). 86.142.15.216 (talk) 22:28, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
