Missing Section[edit]

Hey, what happened to the qoutes section? It was just starting to look good. I don't think it's irrevalent or anything; these qoutes actually describe Gordon's big, pompous, proud character. Please return them to this article.Ohyeh 14:36, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quotes sections on articles such as this one are very superfluous, and I let them slide, but wasn't terribly happy keeping them there (had more important matters to take care of). I couldn't see much to justify keeping the section there. I didn't delete the section, but hopefully this reasoning makes the reasons clear, on behalf of whoever did delete the section. Image:Gordon.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Candidate For Deletion?[edit]

The article for Gordon the Big Engine should not be deleted. He is one of the main characters on Thomas & Friends and was one of the three original characters (alongside Edward and Henry) from The Railway Series. He's been there since the beginning for crying out loud! I just added two more sources over the past two days, that should help the article look a little better. My vote is to keep the article, however, if you higher ups decide to get rid of it, please just redirect it to the Thomas & Friends characters list article instead of deleting it entirely. --JCC the Alternate Historian (talk) 20:40, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the prod, but the proposer is likely to take this to a full deletion discussion next. There is some discussion of Gordon in this book in the context of gender equality in children's books. It's brief, but that's at least one out-of-universe RS discussing him. The Oxford Companion could certainly be added. Childrens Literature and the Politics of Equality is most useful if you want to say something in the article about gender stereotyping. That's hardly surprising for a work of this age, but that's what Pinsent is discussing. That source also gives the date of publication of the book dedicated to Gordon (1953). Hello. I'm completely new to editing so I still need to study editing guidelines before I start making changes, but I do have some suggestions as I'd hate to see this article disappear. I believe Gordon's article would benefit from a "character profile" section similar to the one on James's page, which would also cover his relationship with the other engines, such as his friendship with James and Henry, and arrogant disposition towards those smaller than him. Another suggestion is a section discussing his stint as the Shooting Star, with a link to the page for the engine his streamlined appearance is based on, and perhaps also including a picture of the Shooting Star so the page becomes more visually appealing (additional benefit is that it would provide an example of CGI Gordon's face, which differs somewhat from the physical model's face). Of course it shouldn't be deleted. It's Gordon the Big Engine. ExpressComingThrough (nice name), please feel free as an editor to edit. Add what you can preferably with sources (but not always required in film or television summaries), and improve the page, you seem to have a clear vision. If what you write is deleted, bring that back to the talk page. The Gordon the Big Engine article seems essential for Wikipedia's The Railway Series collection, as are several other Railway Series articles which have been recently focused on. I'm currently collecting and verifying sources (using the other engines' pages as guidelines), since that seems to be the most pressing matter. It may take a while. I appreciate Wikipedia's standards and standing, so I want to be thorough. The additional content I have in mind will have to wait, though I'm writing a draft for that as well.
