Commander 1838[edit]

It's a handsome picture, and my respects to the uploader. But I think we need a more reliable source than family say so that there was a Thomas Stuart in command in 1838. According to other records, Pembroke's commander from her commissioning in 1836 until paying off in 1840 was Fairfax Moresby. This can be checked against Moresby's biography the ODNB for example. And while I can find evidence of a Thomas Stuart who did serve in the Victorian Navy, he did not become a captain until much later, 1856 in fact. And there's nothing as yet to suggest the two are one and the same, or that it was he, and not Moresby, who was in command in 1838. Benea (talk) 13:52, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
