Alledged copyright violations[edit]

Here are the alledged copyright violations, as pointed out by User:Whwya.

I had a look at at your concerns. You are saying that this one is a copyrightg violation?

My text:

The network operates the following locomotives:[2]

  • 72 x GE Dash-9
  • 51 x GE Evolution Series
  • 5 x GE Dash-8

Rio's:

Locomotives:

• 72 x GE Dash 9.

• 51 x GE Evo.

• 5 x GE Dash 8.

And this one:

My text:

With 1,300 kilometres of track, it is the largest privately owned heavy freight rail network in Australia

Rio's:

With a network of 12 mines, three shipping terminals and the largest privately owned heavy freight rail network in Australia, our Pilbara operations make up a major part of our iron ore activities globally.

And this one:

My text:

Treasurer Wayne Swan declared that access to the rail lines by third parties would increase competition, stop infrastructure double-ups and reduce damage to sensitive native title and environmental regions.

Source text:

Following the National Competition Council's recommendation, Mr Swan declared the rail lines accessible by other users for 20 years on the grounds it would increase competition, stop infrastructure double-ups and reduce damage to sensitive native title and environmental regions.

Are you for real, mate? I could possibly see the third one as to close in text, and that could be altered quite easily but there is absolutley nothing wrong with the first two! Calistemon (talk) 08:47, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If I may try to offer help as an uninvolved outsider, this seems to me rather a storm in a teacup. Certainly there has been copying of some of the wording, but at such a trivial level that, unless I am missing something, rather than edit-warring, it would be easy to rewrite them. I have made an attempt at doing so. I hope I have avoided making such a close paraphrase as to still constitute a copyright infringement, but if I haven't then I hope my version can serve as a step in the right direction, to be improved further. Thanks very much for the effort. I was attempting the same as you but your version is quite good. I'm, for my part, quite satisfied with it. Calistemon (talk) 09:11, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
One more that I missed, just to make the list complete.
Rio's: Each train is operated by a single driver, and comprises up to 234 ore cars, each ore car with a load capacity of approximately 106 tonnes. A fully loaded train weighs approximately 29,500 tonnes and is about 2.4 kilometres in length.
Mine: Each train comprises of up to 234 ore cars, each ore car with a load capacity of approximately 106 tonnes. A fully loaded train weighs approximately 29,500 tonnes and is about 2.4 kilometres in length. Each train has an average cycle time of 28 hour.
Admittingly, my "rephrasing" eforts on that one were poor to non-existend, on that one I'm guilty as charged. Calistemon (talk) 11:08, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For the first one, I did not say that "The network operates the following locomotives..." is a copyvio. I said that "Each train comprises of up to 234 ore cars, each ore car with a load capacity of approximately 106 tonnes. A fully loaded train weighs approximately 29,500 tonnes and is about 2.4 kilometres in length. Each train has an average cycle time of 28 hours." is copied verbatim.
For the second one, "largest privately owned heavy freight rail network in Australia" is common in both. If you cannot realize that that is a copyvio, Wikipedia isn't the place for you.
For the third one, all you did was insert a comma.
I am for real, and I am also dedicated to academic honesty and will not compromise the reputation of Wikipedia solely to scrape in some DYKs. If you are incapable of writing without copying verbatim, I suggest you find another venue for your copyright violations. Whwya (talk) 00:30, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, JamesBWatson, thank you for dealing with this. Ever since plagiarism concerns have surfaced at DYK and elsewhere, we must be on the lookout for these types of things. I'm relieved I caught this one before it went on the main page, for all to see how Wikipedia plagiarizes. Whwya (talk) 00:34, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I really think, you need to gain some understanding what a copyright violation really is, mate. I go with User:JamesBWatson opinion that this is really a trivial matter. As to whether I'm fit to edit wikipedia or not, let Admin's decide that, luckily you don't have a say in this! Personally, having had a look at your, very limited, editing history, so far you seem to be mostly engaged in personal attacks agains user users. Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Below is a list of links that were found on the main page:

Triggered by \brailway-technology\.com\b on the local blacklist

If you would like me to provide more information on the talk page, contact User:Cyberpower678 and ask him to program me with more info.
