Untitled[edit]

I decided this should go directly to Hanford site, as many people call the Hanford site simply "Hanford." Most of the other links here are red links, and I believe people who type "Hanford" will usually want to go to Hanford site rather than to Hanford, California, Hanford, Washington (which no longer exists), or Hanford High School. I put a disambig link at the top of Hanford site to help any users who mistakenly end up there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Northwesterner1 (talkcontribs) 07:17, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The decision has been disputed. Also, please do not do cut-n-paste moves. -- JHunterJ (talk) 19:06, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 18 September 2020[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved, open to the possibility of test redirects to measure "Hanford" usage for later realignment. -- JHunterJ (talk) 11:33, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hanford (disambiguation)Hanford – Redundant title: no main subject Staszek Lem (talk) 23:44, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nom, to revert the recent move in the opposite direction, for which there seemed to be no consensus. --188.30.20.102 (talk) 08:12, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support no clear primary topic for "Hanford" alone, Hanford Site gets 10,914 but Hanford, California gets 4,492, Hanford, Washington gets 1,154, Hanford, Staffordshire gets 31, Hanford, Dorset gets 24, Hanford (surname) gets 20, Hanford, Iowa gets 11 and Hanford (constituency) gets 1[[1]]. Given that "Hanford Site" is a WP:PTM (of the place in Washington) it doesn't seem plausible that the site is the primary topic for "Hanford" alone similar to the fact that Abraham Lincoln gets more views (and has more long-term significance) than the places called "Lincoln" but most readers will use his full name, the same likely applies here. Even if most readers looking for the Californian city searched with the state I still think that's more likely than the site. Given as noted above (and at User talk:Red Slash#Hanford) that this move appears to have been made and reverted a number of times it would probably have best to go through RM with the DAB at the base name but I don't see a problem with having the RM now even if its at the "wrong" location for a week or so (per WP:BRD especially since 188.30.20.102 has already pointed the base name back to the DAB) but if this is closed as "no consensus" then it will have to be returned to the base name per WP:RMCI. • Support per nom.--Ortizesp (talk) 14:32, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per both pageviews (solidly in favor of the Hanford Site) and long-term significance. The first place plutonium was created, the engine for Cold War and WWII nuclear armament, and the largest and most contaminated Superfund site in the country. Red Slash 17:37, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Who the hell cares. There are zillions places where something was first. I say, for me Deidre Hanford is more important. Staszek Lem (talk) 18:28, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • I don't think page views are relevant here. They tell you how many people looked at the 'Hanford Site' page, but not how many of them got there by just typing 'Hanford'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.40.177.183 (talkcontribs) 10:04, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Page views solidly in favor of the site? 10,914 isn't that much more than 4,492 especially when you ask how many people looking for the site will type just "Hanford" and its not clear that its primary by long-term significance for the single word either. Crouch, Swale (talk) 09:29, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. On the face of it this isn't about a primary topic, it's about resolving a WP:MALPLACED disambiguation page. There's no proposal here for Hanford to be a primary redirect. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 16:03, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well it is, although we have MALPLACED we can see if there is consensus to treat the site as primary before moving back. If no one thought there was a primary topic we would just move immediately but since Red Slash does I see no problem in seeing if there is consensus to treat the site as primary. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:28, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well back into your well; no need to be too bureaucratic. In this discussion voters already say that there is no primary topic. Even your own count supports this. The two issues are the two sides of the same coin. Staszek Lem (talk) 17:45, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes that was my point, if there is consensus to have the site a primary (unlikely) the redirect would be changed back to the site and the DAB left as is. If there's no consensus or consensus against the site being primary we would move the DAB back. My point about not being too bureaucratic is that there's nothing wrong with having a MALPLACED DAB page instead of moving immediately and asking Red Slash to file an RM in the opposite direction. No one is questioning MALPLACED. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:58, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
