IDF is a common term in hydrology for Intensity-Duration-Freqency, which is a collection of data for describing a rainstorm.

The result of the move request was: moved. Per consensus, primary redirect. – robertsky (talk) 14:29, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IDFIDF (disambiguation) – I think "IDF" should be moved to "IDF (disambiguation)" and "IDF" should be converted into a redirect to Israel Defense Forces. This is the same as how we treat IMF and I think it makes sense to do the same here. Thoughts? --MZMcBride (talk) 21:59, 11 March 2024 (UTC) — Relisting.  — Amakuru (talk) 13:58, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Your template parameters didn't seem to match what you're proposing to do, so I changed them. Please check if that change is correct. — BarrelProof (talk) 22:18, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oop, thank you. It's kinda wild how janky the requested moves process still is. --MZMcBride (talk) 01:24, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Compared to many other processes on Wikipedia, requested moves is one of the more formalized and least janky ones -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 05:57, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    A pretty damning statement. :-) --MZMcBride (talk) 18:10, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • @MZMcBride Could I have more insight on to your thinking for doing this?
aaronneallucas (talk) 03:41, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Reading WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT (and WP:PRIMARYTOPIC) may be helpful. — BarrelProof (talk) 03:52, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm guess I'm trying to figure out if the IDF would qualify as the primary topic. aaronneallucas (talk) 03:59, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It seems pretty clear that is what is being suggested – i.e., that when people refer to IDF they are almost certainly referring to the Israel Defense Forces. At least, that's what I think is being suggested (by the nominator, not by me). — BarrelProof (talk) 04:12, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. My thinking is that IDF is almost always referencing Israel Defense Forces, not a part-time Indian force from 1917 or the Intel Developer Forum or any of the other entries. --MZMcBride (talk) 16:44, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I would agree that Israel Defense Forces probably is the most common use of the term right now, though it may be kind of WP:RECENTISM due to the Hamas war, and the International Diabetes Federation also seems to be a significant use. Could we get a comparison of pageviews between the different entries on the DAB? I may make one myself later when I feel less lazy. AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 02:02, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here is a two-year comparison. It looks like the Israel topic is very dominant over that one. The ratio was more than 100:1 even before October 2023. — BarrelProof (talk) 02:11, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here is analysis of all the links on the page for 2022, well before the recent attacks. The only topics that are reasonably close to the Defence Force aren't even especially known as just "IDF". -- Fyrael (talk) 16:42, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: Primary topics for three-letter abbreviations are uncommon, but this one seems to have one very dominant topic. — BarrelProof (talk) 17:42, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Relisting comment - there seems to be a rough consensus here that it can be moved, but giving it another week in the hope that more clarity can emerge.  — Amakuru (talk) 13:58, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as proposed. I have been doing disambiguation of links incoming to this title for years, and this is virtually always the correct target. BD2412 T 17:05, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support Israel Defense Forces is clearly the primary topic in this case. If you just google IDF, everything there's about the Israel Defense Forces. Prodraxis (talk) 17:20, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
