Koufos' nationality[edit]

In my opinion, Kosta Koufos is an American citizen of Greek descent. Since he was born and raised in the US, and has only hold a Greek citizenship for a few months, he is primarly a US-American, not a Greek. --Bender235 17:28, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If the FIBA is happy to consider him greek and let him play for the Greek team, I say let's go by their opinion and (evidently) the player's as well. By the way, have a look here: WP:3RR.
Abstain from contravening this rule or I will report you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.27.110.238 (talk) 00:26, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Who says FIBA is considering him Greek? He's playing for the Greek national team yes, but that doesn't make him Greek, just like J.R. Holden ain't Russian cause he's playing for Russia. Koufos was born in the US and raised in the US. He's an American of Greek descent, a Greek American if you want, but nonetheless American.
BTW: Do you think you scare me with that 3RR threat? I might just do it like you, log off and edit as an “anonymous” IP. --Bender235 00:36, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So do you have any argument why Koufos is Greek rather than US-American? As I said, he was born and raised in the US, and chose to play for Greece just like Holden chose to play for Russia. --Bender235 12:28, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kosta was born in America, however, like most Greek Americans, he was raised by his parents, both from Greece, as a Greek, which is typical in the Greek American culture. Because of this, Kosta now has Greek citizenship, which therefore classifies him as a Greek citizen who in fact was raised as one as well.

I might be 5 years late with this conversation but Koufos has automatic Greek Citizenship from birth because he is a Greek National (Ethnic Greek) because both his parents are Greek Nationals born in Greece.this is a million miles away from J.R. Holden or lately Lester "Bo" McCalebb, who are not exactly Russian or Slavonic Ethnicity to play for Russia or FYROM respectively and were just given a passport. On the other hand Koufos played for the under 17 and the under 19 Greek national squads long before the NBA was interested in him. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.22.45.205 (talk) 15:18, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
