Too far?[edit]

"a great letterer has as much to do with the quality of the comic as the penciler, inker, writer, or colorist." Hahahaha! Was this article actually written by a comic letterer?

I agree that statement may be going a little too far. (This is coming from an amateur who prefers to "digitally hand-letter" -- drawing each letter with a graphics tablet on a computer. I think of it as getting the best of both worlds.) Certainly, though, a bad letterer can ruin a comic just as easily as a bad penciler, inker, writer, or colorist. But with the use of computer fonts, truly bad lettering isn't so common. There is definitely an art to lettering, and I think that the art itself is indeed as important as the art of drawing, inking, etc., but I don't think it has as great an impact on the final product. Image:Astonishing xmen-16 wolvy.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Letterer, other uses for the term[edit]

A letterer is also a term for a traditional stone carver/font maker. Such as slab style, alphabet stones as found on early Colonial carved graved stones in the New England area. They may be related terms? We may need to either edit this page to be more inclusive or create two pages and have a disambiguation page?
