Names that do not have a Wikipedia biography need reliable sources[edit]

If a name without a Wikipedia biography article is added to this list and reliable sources are not provided, it will have to be deleted. To include a name that does not have a biographical article, reliable sources must be cited that prove the person is a lesbian filmmaker. When the edit screen is opened the following hidden message appears: "Names without a biography article must include reliable sources (WP:RS)." Additionally, the advisory posted above cannot be ignored: "This article must adhere to the biographies of living persons (BLP) policy". Pyxis Solitary (yak). Notes on the article's creation[edit]

This article serves the encyclopedic function of making information more accessible to the reader. Academic studies and media reports indicate that this subset of filmmakers is distinct both demographically and for its unique voice. The filmmakers listed are inherently notable (each having their own Wikipedia page). This list is separate and distinct from the List of LGBT films directed by women because not all of those filmmakers are lesbian. GetSomeUtah (talk) 13:48, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, fair play. -- Pingumeister(talk) 13:50, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I recommend you move the article to List of female LGBT filmmakers due to style guidelines and more neutral use of language. -- Pingumeister(talk) 13:51, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(Not that I'm equating lesbianism with all of LGBT. I believe the article may benefit by including those other identities.) -- Pingumeister(talk) 13:54, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I agree with you that the broader community needs coverage as well. I'm concerned that changing this article's name will draw fire because it will be difficult to find sources to substantiate "female LGBT" filmmakers, and that much broader community is an entirely bigger -- and in many ways, different -- story. I would propose keeping List of Lesbian Filmmakers as a subset of a (larger) article that is a List of LGBT Filmmakers. GetSomeUtah (talk) 14:06, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sourcing[edit]

Kindly note that the following sources used to create this list are all considered reliable and authoritative by Wikipedia, and each has its respective article attesting to that fact: The View from Here: Conversations with Gay and Lesbian Filmmakers, AfterEllen.com, IndieWire, The Week. IMDB is not a source, although it of course corroborates the above. GetSomeUtah (talk) 13:55, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
