Reinstating article[edit]

I reverted the deletion of this article for two reasons. First, I believe that this school is notable given its history and because it is one of a select number of elementary schools in the district designated for advanced academic instruction as part of the "gifted and talented" program. Second, I would argue that it is indeed of interest to have articles on all elementary schools, even those lacking what we may deem to be a "notable" history or program.--A12n (talk) 15:16, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reinstating article, II[edit]

This article was deleted without a proposal to that effect or discussion. I believe that given the history of the school it is notable enough to be included in Wikipedia. I will review the policies concerning elementary school articles, but am also of the opinion that all schools are relevant subjects for Wikipedia articles.--A12n (talk) 13:33, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

The history of Vienna Colored School may go back to the Reconstruction Era if the school with the same name described in this article is the same. VCS was moved to its current location - now LAES - in 1939. Louise Archer was principal of the school from 1922 to her passing in 1948. Also, more clarity is needed on the post-segregation transition of the school to being part of the Fairfax County school system.--A12n (talk) 13:03, 18 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

According to Ernestine C. Heastie, Fairfax County School Board member at a FCSB meeting on Feb. 24, 2000: "Louise Archer was formerly called the Vienna Colored School and was part of the First Baptist Church of Vienna, which opened in 1867." An article in The Connection entitled "Rediscovering History: Pohick offers Black History celebration" (Feb. 8, 2006) states: "The Vienna Colored School, built in 1867 on 1/8 of an acre from former Union officer O.E. Hine, is now Louise Archer Elementary School." Hopefully someone with more time can sort this out and expand the history section of the page accordingly.--A12n (talk) 16:19, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
