Football
[edit]I've removed the POV content (and title) of the Football section. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not an advertisement for the team. This section probably belongs at Massillon Washington High School, since it is that school that this section speaks of. Because of the originally POV nature of this section, a good fact-checking may be in order. (By the way, I'm not writing this because I'm a St. X graduate; this is something I'd do for an article on curling, too.) – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs, blog) 02:58, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
- I was wondering if we should rename the "Football" section to a "Sports" section since this section is about sports?---OHWiki 19:50, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think the current heading is appropriate since the only sport discussed is football. If information about other sports is added, then the section could be renamed, possibly with subheadings for each sport. --Sanfranman59 (talk) 20:03, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- That's cool, we can change the heading down the line if other sports info is added!---OHWiki 20:11, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Massillon (mas's%l-lon), O., a city in Stark County, northeastern Ohio, on Tus-carawas River, the Ohio Canal and the Wheeling and Lake Erie, Pennsylvania and Cleveland, Lorain and Wheeling railroads. It lies 65 miles south of Cleveland in a good wheat-growing, coal-mining, stone-quarrying belt. It has many industries including iron-bridge, agricultural-implement and threshing-machine works; paper, flour, and rolling-mills; sandstone quarries and glass-works. It possesses good public schools, churches, banks and public buildings. Population 13,879. — Preceding undated comment added 18:25, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Remove inappropriate tone tag?
[edit]It seems to me that we can remove the inappropriate tone tag from this article now. It was added by a user almost two years ago and it has come a long way since then. Any objections? --Sanfranman59 (talk) 04:42, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, we should remove the tone tag because the article has seen lots of improvements since the tone tag went up at the top of the article?---OHWiki (talk) 02:50, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- As there seems to be no objection to removing the tone tag, I'm going to do so. --Sanfranman59 (talk) 06:15, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Justification for reversion of edits to Football section
[edit]The info about Spielman was fine as it was worded. "The Ohio State University" wording is awkward in this context. Spielman was indeed a two-time All-Pro, so it's perfectly reasonable to reference that in this paragraph rather than simply calling him a "veteran". The statement about Massillon having the second most high school football wins behind Valdosta, GA still needs a source, so I put the tag back in. I removed the references to the websites for several reasons: (1) it's not notable that there are blogs devoted to Tigers football, (2) Wikipedia is not a link farm and (3) links to blogs should be avoided. --Sanfranman59 (talk) 03:42, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Justification for removal of Massillon.com external link
[edit]Massillon.com/MassillonTigersLair.com/BeatMcKinley.com is a personal web site and primarily a fan forum. Per WP:EL#Links normally to be avoided, such links are to be avoided (see #10 & #11). --Sanfranman59 (talk) 17:22, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
Geographic Area and Annexation
[edit]According to data on the official municipal website Massillon[1], the total acreage of the city stood at 12,050.039 (18.28 square miles, 47.34 square kilometers) as of January 10, 2007. On the same website, under the "Mayor's Office" section [2]the city area is stated to stand at 12,128.653 acres (18.951 square miles, 49.083 square kilometers).
I have made an inquiry with the City of Massillon to verify and clarify this information on their website. Once reconciled and publicly available through the official city website, I suggest that this information be utilized to update the "Geography" section and the "Area" section of this article's sidebar, including a note of reference. In the case of the Geography section I would suggest adding a sentence to the existing entry that speaks of the City's continued growth in area due to annexation.
