[edit] Image talk:4ecdcaa9.jpg - 90 degree panorama from Manila.

this image is inaccurate (geographically impossible, photoshopped?). at this angle, makati city skyline should be at the right side and much smaller than it is in the picture. This image is not taken from Manila which is in the west, the view of ortigas here is from the east.

yup, Makati City is visible at the left of the picture. Please compare this image with this image - Ortigas Center Skyline. This image (Image:4ecdcaa9.jpg) might confuse other people. --Slyder 20:48, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

So, if an image has wrong geographic information, we have to delete it, not just change the information in it's description? Chilledsunshine 22:28, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

That photograph is not photoshopped. That is taken from Antipolo by a forumer from www.skyscrapercity.com. The telephoto gives an illusion that Makati looks somewhat closer than it actually is. and it should indeed be on the left side of that photograph. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.215.78.4 (talk) 07:09, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Marina Village, Parañaque?

I've never heard of this village, despite being raised in Parañaque. Only reference I could find on Google was that it's located in Tambo, Paraãque [1]. Should I remove the reference to it in the Wealth Extremes section? Edward Sandstig 10:58, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 'Metro'

The term Metro Manila shoud not be mistaken to mean the metro rail system of the city.

This seems to be a "so what?" statement. By the team readers will read that statement, they will already know that Metro Manila is not the railway system. Another point: Metro Manila would, IMO, be obviously a metro area, while Manila Metro would imply an electric railway system (as the case seems for most "XXX metro" articles). —seav

I think it is not so obvious, most occurrences of the word 'metro' (for example in wikipedia) refer to the rail system, and a remark to emphasize that this does not apply here is quite in order.?? Patrick 10:53 Dec 30, 2002 (UTC)

[edit] Mega-Manila

I have been hearing about an entity called Mega Manila, which supposedly includes Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna in a larger metropolitan area (I think based on commuting patterns). Does anyone have additional information on this? -- 19:30, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Unless there is a conclusive reliable source, let us not place this in an online encyclopedia.--Jondel 00:38, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
Also, "GMA" as in Acronyms in the Philippines. I believe it refers to the towns of the 4 provinces that are adjacent to Metro Manila (e.g. Antipolo and Cainta in Rizal, but not Angono). But then, no reference.

Looking at Google Earth, I'm sure meany would consider Metro Manila not the entire metro area for Manila... Urbanized sections of land stretch as far north as Clark and as far south as the south end of the lake...Chilledsunshine 20:27, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

See Mega Manila for the answer. --Howard the Duck 09:57, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

There are two Mega Manila terminologies. First is the Imelda Mega Manila extending Metro Manila to include the suburbs (Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, Laguna). This is old and it is wrong. The second one which is correct and the legally recognized name since 1995(? if I remember this correctly) is Megapolitan Manila (or simply Mega Manila, as opposed to Metro Manila for Metropolitan Manila). As per the United Nations guidelines on Megapolitans, it much reach at least 8 million total population. We reached that population in the 90s, and thus Metro Manila or Metropolitan Manila is now wrong, it is now legally known as Mega Manila for Megapolitan Manila. In other words, the whole article is inaccurate :p --- Laibcoms (talk | Contribs) 13:30, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Inaccurate Map of Metro Manila

The reclamation area is not part of Cavite. The reclamation (Boulevard 2000) is the extended part of a city. For example, one part of the reclamation is Parañaque City extending west to the Manila Bay.

I see... I've uploaded a new version that extends the city borders to the sea. I hope that's right, or at least better. Coffee 16:29, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] "Expositions" section

I removed a section called "International Events and Expositions held in Metro Manila", since it's useless, very messy, and seemed to consist of an arbitrary listing things that happened to be held in Metro Manila. Wikipedia is NOT an indiscriminate collection of information. Coffee 00:57, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Parañaque Seal

Does anyone have the new seal of Parañaque City, with a new and colorful design?

[edit] Mestizos a majority in Metro Manila?

Can anyone provide a source for this statement? I was under the impression that the number of Filipino-Chinese far-outnumbered the number of part-European people in Metro Manila. So perhaps the statement should read Tagalogs and Filipino-Chinese are the largest ethnic group in Metro Manila instead? --Edward Sandstig 16:00, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Removed that reference since nobody came forward with a source. --Edward Sandstig 19:50, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] list creep in Education section

People seem to keep adding more and more educational institutions to this section. We should come up with some criteria for what to include and exclude ot else this list could get pretty long. --Polaron | Talk 15:01, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, that seems to be a problem I notice with other Philippine city articles. Someone starts a small list with a few prestigous schools, and gradually people keep adding their own schools, and eventually the article is just full of lists of schools, hotels, malls, etc. (see Cagayan de Oro). The demographics section needs to be cleaned up too.. it makes Metro Manila sound like the United Nations. Coffee 15:57, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
How about the Manila article? Even high schools too. --Howard the Duck 15:59, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
We could remove the sentence about other noteworthy institutions altogether, and just specify which schools in List of colleges and universities in the Philippines are in Metro Manila, or create a List of universities in Metro Manila article. I'll see if I can dig up some document to justify keeping the sentence containing UST, DLSU, AdMU and UP. --Edward Sandstig 18:12, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
I limited inclusion on schools with Wikipedia articles, and pics which are freely licensed. --Howard the Duck 11:57, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

    • Like the pictures, really puts color into the whole article, anon

[edit] Cityhood

Request: Can anyone add the daye of cityhood for the cities? --Howard the Duck 11:57, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removed link to PLM press release on Manila Bulletin

I removed the link to the Manila Bulletin about PLM since it was a press release about the PLM's 39th anniversary and not an article. --Edward Sandstig 21:58, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Table of Cities

Does anyone know if it's possible (and if so, how) to make the numbers in this table [2] right-justify? It's hard to read when they're left-justified. Thanks! Newbie Mpwrmnt 10:16, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

I right-aligned them. --Howard the Duck 15:38, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wealth extremes sub-section

I've trimmed this down quite a bit since it's turning into a list of practically every gated community in Metro Manila. I picked Forbes Park, Dasmariñas Village and Ayala Alabang since I figured they were amongst the most well-known. I put in Loyola Heights since I figured there should be at least one for Quezon City. To make this less arbitrary though, should we use something like cost per square meter as a metric, or do we try to get data from the BIR or maybe the NSO on the median income in these areas? --Edward Sandstig 12:10, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

I was happier with the original listing of lots of gated communities. That just shows that a lot of wealth is actually distributed throughout the metropolis. However, looking at other Philippine area websites will show hardly any, which is, I think, an appropriate illustration of how things are in the Philippines. Or, I'd add the following places: Corinthian Gardens, Greenmeadows, and La Vista in Quezon City; Greenhills in San Juan; and Valle Verde in Pasig City.Rmcsamson 12:38, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Note that not all of the gated communities around Metro Manila and other Philippine cities are those of the upper middle and wealthy class. Alot of Lower middle-class subdivisions such as those of Camella or Palmera Homes are also gated since there are security guards right at the gate entrance Themanilaxperience (talk) 05:52, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] It's time...

I think that we've made the article comprehensive enough already...shall we try and get someone to nominate it for GA or FA status? Eternal dragon 07:59, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Amendments

Some thing within the article need to be updated.

  • That wide image needs to be either removed or converted to a thumbnail which fits within the width of the page. Otherwise it will take too long to load and will look too complicated.
  • The facts on the brand new NAIA terminal need to be updated. It's already June 2007 and it's not complete yet.

Check for more facts in that article before it's nominated or anything. It might need to be reviewed more. Eternal dragon 08:08, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

"owing a great respect to the history of Manila" in History, graf 4. Huh? "a great respect"? Tagasilab 11:42, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Official name

Someone stated that Manila Metropolitan Area is the official designation for Metro Manila. However, I am not able to confirm this. What source uses that appellation? Executive Order No. 392 which constituted the Metropolitan Manila Authority keeps using Metropolitan Manila throughout. The other entities that have been in charge of the metropolis have been the Metropolitan Manila Commission and the current Metropolitan Manila Development Authority. Where is the term Manila Metropolitan Area favored? Lambanog (talk) 08:51, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

I support this statement i think the Manila Metropolitan Area is the most suitable title for this article...121.54.2.91 (talk) 15:02, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Metro Manila does not have a regional centre

I just saw an images of Manila's skyline and in it is the caption being the centre of the metropolis.

Is Manila alone the centre? Is it because it is the capital of The Philippines? There are other cities within MM that also deserves to be a centre.

Makati for example is the financial and commercial hub of Metro Manila. Does it make it a centre as well. So is Quezon City, which is a major entertainment and to some extent, a political hub.

The photo should be removed because it would be unfair to other Metro Manila cities since they also play a great contribution to the metro

Also The MMDA, the metro's governing body has its headquarters in Makati, not Manila.

Themanilaxperience (talk) 06:56, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Skyline

I believe there should be a discussion on whether how many skylines will be shown, and from which cities would they be. Moray An Par (talk) 02:24, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

For me, I believe the images of Manila, Makati and Quezon City are more deserving than other cities because they have more important roles in Metro Manila and in the Philippines. For example, Manila is the centre of the government here in the Philippines. While Makati is the largest business district in the metropolis and in the Philippines. And Quezon City for example is the largest city in the metro and also in the Philippines. But still I want to know your opinions about this topic. Pinoys' City Mayor (talk) 06:56, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
The Quezon City skyline shot isnt proffesional. It looks really weird. The Ortigas Center skyline shot is better. In fact, it would even be the 3rd of 3 night-time pics.--Mervynbunique (talk) 20:01, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Clickable Map

I think it is necessary to create a Clickable map of Metro Manila that include it's cities like clickable map of Bulacan, please add some more...-121.54.2.91 (talk) 01:35, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

[edit] More informations and help needed 1

I dont know how to change names of articles in wiki but someone must change it from Metro Manila to Metropolitan manila Jpogi (talk) 12:58, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

Why? Moray An Par (talk) 13:39, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
For all we know, it's not common name WP:NC. It's also used in official publications. Refer to Republic Act No. 6636, and see how "Metropolitan Manila" is used interchangeably with "Metro Manila". Moray An Par (talk) 13:55, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

[edit] The Table

For all due respect, I think the table regarding the cities and municipalities of Metro Manila is tampered with and is no longer making sense with the corresponding header (for the column). I hope that someone would take an action in relevance to this. Thank you.
