Relevant[edit]

I have three additional names of the Ethiopian cadets in Russian additionally to the name Tekle Hawariat Tekle Mariyam, but I think the Russian writing can have errors. Also, As experiment for the country of not having a sea-shore two Ethiopian naval officers were geared-up in Russia, probably even in the Russian empire was already present persuasion about confessions of rights for Ethiopia to have marine port!Sergeispb-10 (talk) 15:27, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ethiopian Navy[edit]

Perhaps someone could write a bit about the former Ethiopian Navy? There seem to have been a number of ships (frigates, missile boats)[1] as well as joint activity with Soviets and against the Eritreans before their independance.[2][3] Moreover, There seems to have been some kind of fleeing of Naval personell to Yemen following Mengiste's purging of the Military, which is in itself notable for their lack of integration[4][5] and eventual absorption as refugees by the US.[6][7] I'm also somewhat puzzled by this reference to an Ethiopian naval presence in the Somalian war in December 2006. I added references to what seemed appropriate for notable citations. However, that article is wrong about an "Ethiopian Navy." The force in question was Combined Task Force 150, a multinational squadron operating under the US 5th Fleet. There was also a Carrier Strike Group, with the USS Eisenhower and its escorts. Wow, you did a really good job on finding more references. Perhaps you could also include a brief section on the fate of the naval crews vis-a-vis the Yemeni refugee situation and the resolution with their ultimate move to the US? Rebuilding army equipment statistics[edit]

Because the army equipment section was so big of a mess and included vague terms such as "reported" and no references of any kind, I rebuilt the section to some extent. I only included equipment and arms that have actually been mentioned somewhere. I know there are massive holes in the list, so I hope others will contribute more stuff to it too. --Dyaros Talk 20:15, 15 october 2011 (UTC)

Alright, if someone wonders, I rebuilt the current equipment list after someone decided to fill it with non-sense, information that had no (read NO) citations of any kind and horrible editorial skills. Remember to add citations and not just second guessing. Furthermore, apparently this person wanted to add massive quantity of equipment that was imported to Ethiopia just after World War 2 or in the few decades passing it, so why not make separate list so that it doesn't get confusing? Splitting main article[edit]

Ethiopian Defense Forces article seems to have outgrown itself a fair bit, so what I am suggesting is to split the ground forces part into its own specific section. This would clarify the articles substantially. Reader would have much clearer picture and it would be easier for the reader to find the information that he or she needs. --Dyaros Talk 8:37, 29 november 2011 (UTC)

I removed the split tag because, if I understand the tagger's intention correctly, the section to split off doesn't seem really big enough. My change along with many others has been reverted with the note "Revert Vandal." Since I did not vandalise the article then I am assuming that it was a mistake and have re-removed the tag. If someone feels strongly enough to revert me again then I suggest that that person goes ahead and splits the article. I will not object if that happens. Op47 (talk) 22:50, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copyedit: too many unexplained abbreviations[edit]

This article contains too many unexplained abbreviations. That makes the article unreadable and difficult to understand for everybody without expert knowledge. I am working on it, but this page has too many problems to begin with, most notably lack of citations and references. I'll do the best I can to update the text. Neutrality of sources[edit]

After reviewing much of the material used in some of the references linked in the article, I believe that those pulled from the Tghat website are not neutral at all, and in fact present a hostile point of view against both the Ethiopian federal government and its military. The sources presented by that site all appear to present ethnic Tigrayan views, which can be confirmed by its own "About" section here.

Tghat was founded, some time into the war on Tigray, by concerned Tigrayans to chronicle and document the war. The idea for its founding was that, during the war and with the communication blackout, the Tigrayan story, Tigrayan collective national sentiment, and the atrocities committed upon Tigrayans were not being written about and documented. Tghat strives to fill a part of this void by encouraging and supporting Tigrayans to write their stories and the story of their people, document and analyze events and atrocities.

I don't think there is any wrong with using a wide range of sources both hostile or favorable toward an event, but I think that shaping a lot of this article on the Ethiopian military after an openly biased news outlet isn't helpful at all. I've already seen multiple hostile edits from Tigrayans here and on the Tigray War article, and gushing praises heaped upon the Tigray Defense Forces from various Tigrayan news outlets which have been used as the source for that article as well. I would like to ensure that we are able to maintain the neutrality of this article as best we can, and use a more varied range of sources to reference for the conflict here and in other articles.
