Why the article has been almost entirely blanked out[edit]

It is quite surprising that the article for such a well known, well documented community has been entirely blanked out. Perhaps I can help, if some of you are willing to watch out for individuals vandalizing the article. I have seen quite a few books, some of them dedicated to the Oswals, including a few I have on my bookshelf.

You won't get many contributors on English Wikipedia who are capable of checking for vandalism if you use non-English sources. Surely a bit more info could be up there though. Oswals are Jains yes? Or that their ethnic group are? I found info on events on Oswal community events in London, but was amazed to see such a paucity of information on here No essential nature (talk) 15:34, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Oswals are a community Jains (with some exceptions) and form an amazing one third of all Jains, even though there are 50-100 other Jain communities. Their history is closely connected with the history of Jainism in Rajasthan/Gujarat in recent centuries. Their history and status are very well documented. I can contribute, however at last a few other editors are needed to guard the article against determined efforts by Sitush to remove information. Malaiya (talk) 21:52, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The People of India[edit]

Please note that, in addition to the requirements explained at WP:V, it is necessary that sources are considered to be reliable. It has long been the consensus of the community that the "states" series of The People of India, published by various outfits on behalf of the Anthropological Survey of India, is not in fact reliable. The volumes that comprise the "national" series were all published by Oxford University Press and are ok to use. - Sitush (talk) 16:40, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of sourced claim that Oswals are Baniyas[edit]

Recently, User:182.66.218.122 has been removing a sourced claim stating that Oswals are Baniyas, without any source to prove otherwise. I dispute this removal on the grounds that is contrary to Wikipedia's principle of retaining reliably sourced content.Chariotrider555 (talk) 04:22, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
