Landale?[edit]

I bring this up once every other year but it always seems to disappear into the ether before being responded to: Rolf (or Eusis in the JP version) is not given a surname. At all. Not in the game, not in the Japanese "text adventure" prequel minigames, not in the guides, and not in Japanese books made up of developer interviews and character backstory sections. It's meant to be a plot-point that Rolf is a descendant of Alis(a), and even knowing that, it's never been stated that her surname survived 1000 years. - 78.143.206.191 (talk) 01:56, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Decided to fix it myself. That section contained way too many inconsistencies anyway. - 78.143.195.202 (talk) 04:44, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Characters[edit]

I thought I would add the weapons that the characters used. I basically put the weapons that the characters tend to use most, rather than listing every type that they could equip.

  • I added the note the Kain can use a couple of the heavy guns, making him a much more useful character. Amy and Hugh are also far more effective with the "Acid Shot" as it ignores defence sometimes hitting enemies for more than Rudo or Rolf!PsyGuy 2nd 13:39, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • The Acid Shot may ignore defense, but it is still criminally weak. Both characters have weapons that will deal more damage even against high-defense enemies. - 78.143.195.202 (talk) 02:12, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey jerkoffs, maybe a warning at the beginning that there are spoilers? I just started the game so you didn't need to warn me ahead of time about what happens to Nei. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.99.254.5 (talk) 21:10, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

About the Spoilers at the Bottom...[edit]

Are there supposed to be spoilers for Final Fantasy 7 at the bottom, because I figure a spoiler warning is supposed to only be for the game that's being talked about, not other games. Shouldn't the warning say if it's going to talk about Final Fantasy 7 beforehand???

Large trivia section[edit]

I've moved the large trivia section from the main article. It seems to have problems (there was an original research tag for instance) but there may be some material that can be written into the article properly. --Tony Sidaway 11:10, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • There is debate over the date of the US version of Phantasy Star II. The Japanese version gives a date of AW 1284, exactly 1,000 years before Phantasy Star IV, and this is confirmed in the US version of Phantasy Star IV when Rika says, "Parma, the first planet of the Algo solar system, was destroyed in AW 1284 when the artificial satellite, Gaira, crashed into it..." However, due to the given age of Phantasy Star IV ’s Wren (998), as well as data found in the Bio-Systems Lab that provides information on climate conditions for the years AW 1280-1286, some players have theorized that the date of the US version of Phantasy Star II is actually AW 1286. (See [1] for more information.) It's entirely possible that the computer readout might have been making an estimate about what could occur in the next two years, given the data available in the recorder and its own calculations, but this seems unlikely.
  • The Japanese title of Phantasy Star II literally translates to, "Phantasy Star II: At the End of the Restoration." The Japanese subtitle is reportedly also a phrase which can mean, "At the end of the time which can never be Returned to." The subtitle was dropped for the US version of the game.
  • Due to technical limitations, Phantasy Star II shortens names of characters and planets to four characters or less. This results in several minor discrepancies with other games of the series, most notably the renaming of the game’s celestial bodies. "Algol" is shortened to "Algo," "Dezoris" to "Dezo," "Motavia" to "Mota," and "Palma" to "Palm."
  • Phantasy Star II is the only game in the entire series that comes with an official Hint Book with the game cartridge. The book contained colored maps and much more additional information, not to be confused with the instruction manual. However, due to complaints that the hint book spoiled the game beforehand, this practice was eventually abandoned.
  • One of this games's more prolific attributes is its rather dark, bleak storyline. This was very uncommon at the time in a role-playing game. Another uncommon story element is the ambiguous ending to the game, perhaps its most memorable scene. The surviving party members must fight a bleak, final battle in the end, and the outcome of this battle is not shown, but rather left up to interpretation. While it is possible that the party survived to return home, it is equally possible that they did not. Phantasy Star II, for these reasons, and other reasons as well (such as its futuristic setting), is considered a highly influential classic far ahead of its time.
  • In Phantasy Star IV, Rune states that the first generation of Lutz stored the Aero-Prism in Soldier's Temple on Motavia (Mota). So it can be assumed that at least one of the party survived and returned to Dezoris for Lutz to get ahold of the Aero-Prism. However, since the Japanese version of Phantasy Star 1 actually contains a character named Lutz (renamed to Noah in the initial American release), Rune may be referring to the character Americans know as Noah.

Text Adventures[edit]

Shouldn't there be mention of the PSII text adventures that were released for the Sega Modem in Japan? I think there's 8 of them total, and 2 of them have already been fan translated into English.

Also, should I add an external link to the RPGClassics Shrine for this game?

Phantasy Star 1 comparisons...[edit]

Since when does Phantasy Star 1 have a "epic character driven storyline"? There is virtually no character interaction at all.

That sounds like a little exaggeration, but the problem is only in the wording. I almost agree with it, though.  ?EVAUNIT神になった人間 01:58, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NA release date is wrong[edit]

It came out the end of March 1990, not Feb 1990. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.226.233.39 (talk) 20:10, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
