Port Orford Heads State Park[edit]

Ipoellet changed the link from "Head" to "Heads": that seemed like subtle vandalism at first (not sure why), but it is indeed correct: http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_61.phpEncMstr 20:43, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chuckle. I suppose I should have put something on the talk page about that. Sorry for the confusion. I do intend shortly to set up a stub for that state park. Ipoellet 21:57, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You two need to talk about fixing up the List of Oregon State Parks page. Hint hint. :) Katr67 22:05, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hint taken. I'm working up some suggstions about how to handle that, but my ideas are still only half-formed. Ipoellet 05:36, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And I went ahead and did that article for Port Orford Heads State Park. I took most of the text from the Port Orford article - simply cut-n-pasted it over with relatively minor edits. All it needs is some references and it looks like a fairly complete article. Ipoellet 05:36, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure Katr67 was hinting in my direction—not yours. It took some time, but I did make such an article at User:EncMstr/List of Oregon State Parks. You can find references for all the state parks there. Comments welcome. —EncMstr 06:33, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think Katr67 has been prodding both of us ever since I started showing an interest in OSP. In any event, I've had a look at your draft list, and it's very interesting. I'll have a couple more detailed comments later. Thanks for your effots on that. Ipoellet 06:44, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Port Orford Meteorite[edit]

Should details on the meteorite hoax go here? Check out this link from the Smithsonian Repository (may take a while to load) http://si-pddr.si.edu/jspui/handle/10088/818 Oldmanrupee (talk) 20:09, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think the meteorite should be its own article with a See also link from this article.
The meteorite is not mentioned as ever being in Port Orford, but surely those seeking it probably started there. A faster loading URL is http://hdl.handle.net/10088/818 Page 9 of the PDF version describes Johnson Mountain as being Evan's Bald Mountain where the alleged meteorite was found at 42°47′51″N 124°06′18″W / 42.79738°N 124.10492°W / 42.79738; -124.10492 (Johnson Mountain) some 40 miles from Port Orford. —EncMstr (talk) 22:29, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Note about dates[edit]

I think even the official websites get the history of the town, the fort, and the port district mixed up. Please examine any sources for dates carefully before changing anything. Key dates appear to be founding (1851/1856) and incorporation (1911/1935). Note per Oregon Geographic Names, Port Orford post office was established in 1855. State of Jefferson[edit]

Article states this movement died. State of Jefferson movement is still alive in many Northern California and Southern Oregon communities as evidenced by yard signs and gift shop souvenirs ranging from bumper stickers to flags. Rural communities that feel poorly represented in government still seek to change state lines as evidenced by a recent referendum to make much of Eastern and Southern Oregon a part of Idaho.
