Just googled it with "gnis rancherie" to look into placenames and there's two in California - Rancherie Island and Rancherie Gulch and Rancheria Rock, which is alternately known as Rancherie Rock; I linked them all in case they're actually significant - who knows in wikiworld what bluelinks sometimes - and I guess I'm surprised to not see more of them, but on the other hand I doubt it's much in BC's toponymy either, although it's all over the place in older histories and also still in smalltown speech, depending on where you are and I guess who you are....I've added the Cali and OR WPs here in the hopes there's more to be had from those quarters, say if someone turns up a mention of a rancherie in some source to do with soem other topic, it could be added here; I've been curious about the evolution of the word from thte original Spanish rancheria, I guess it happened in California before BC - depending on when those palcenames were come up with, that is. I'm pretty sure I've seen mention of rancheries in ref to Ft Vancouver and maybe antoehr HBC fort, and maybe in Puget Sound, so I'll add WPWash as well, though I won't palce any cats as there's no cvontent from any of CA, OR or WA yet. If ID or MT or YT or AK should be added, please do so.Skookum1 (talk) 03:05, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
