Commentary[edit]

There is absolutely no need for edits like this which are nothing but commentary and only serve to turn the encyclopedic article into basic sports journalism. GiantSnowman 17:22, 25 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What does this actually mean?:

"spending a total of three years with them after initially playing for their reserve team before becoming a first-team regular"

He spent three years with them AFTER he had already played for their reserve team and BEFORE he became a first-team regular? What did he actually do in those three years? And what was his actual total time there? I'm guessing it means this (though don't know much about him and could be wrong):

"spending a total of three years with them, initially playing for their reserve team and then becoming a first-team regular"

Lead[edit]

Apparently, it is WP:RECENTISM to put in the lead that Mahrez won the PFA Players' Player of the Year because it happened a couple of days ago, or WP:UNDUE attention on one award.

Just a tiny peak at the honours section shows that this is the biggest honour he was been given. But again, it's nothing, just choosing one of around 500 players who take to the field over a season in the world's most watched sports league. It's no different to an online poll , clearly.

Per WP:CRYSTAL we can't assume it will become a footnote in ten years when after eight consecutive Ballons d'Or he retires to become the next president of Algeria. So instead we have a lead where we mention him playing in the lower leagues in France, winning the Championship and having a couple of bit-part roles in international tournaments. Berber name?[edit]

I know that the issue of Berber identity is highly sensitive in the Maghreb, so I'll ask whether it is standard to have his name in Berber at the top of the page. I copied and pasted the script and the only results were the Wikipedia pages in English and French. Granted, Berber has much less media prominence than Arabic, but I thought there would be at least one article about the most famous Algerian. It's unreferenced so I've removed it. If the name can be sourced sourced, and if it can be sourced that Mahrez is Berber, then it might be worth adding. GiantSnowman 07:04, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
According to the new constitution I found linked on Algeria, Berber is "equally the national and official language", but like you said we don't know whether he is one or not. A parallel is that Serbian is an equal national language of Bosnia-Herzegovina, but putting a Serbian Cyrillic name for a Bosniak or Bosnian Croat would be seen as a provocation. Mobile site search summary.[edit]

When searching for Riyad Mahez on the mobile version of Wikipedia a summary comes up under the name when it's suggested. For this page it summarises as "Algerian football plays for Arsenal" which is clearly not the case (and hopefully won't be). Oh those? You should have said. Two of the awards were removed as insignificant, and one you did not specify as being the CAF award, so it was also removed because its notability was not then established. However El Heddaf is the most important sport magazine in Algeria and have a tv channel El Heddaf TV wich is too the most important sport channel in Algeria. And every year, Algerian Footballer of the Year and Arab Footballer of the Year are shosen. this is very important event. Same as Lion d'Or Africain where African Footballer of the Year is shosen every year by the famous moroccan magazine El-Mountakhab. Not Moroccan[edit]

His mother is algerian, she holds the algerian nationality, it is his grandmother that is morrocan, having a grand mother from morroco doesnt make you morrocan, stop with the appropriation!! @GiantSnowman: You have reverted referenced edits with no reason other than reaching a "consensus for inclusion", you are the only one who is against the inclusion. Why did not you start a discussion here before reverting the edits three times including twice in a row?! @GiantSnowman: Each section includes the highlights of the season, this event is considered a personal achievement, in which scoring at this stage will always be remembered. Lots of articles include goals in competitions which are far less important. @GiantSnowman: When someone scores in a World Cup Final, would you read a match report about the final score or articles about each goal scored by itself?
