Why on Earth are there links within the article, to the article - I clicked When I Get You Alone and up in the same article, rather disappointing. If there is no article, there should be no link - particularly not back to the same article. Tinkstar1985 14:24, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When I Get You Alone[edit]

I heard this for the first time a couple weeks ago and was impressed. However, when I researched it, I couldn't find any instances of U.S. chartings of it. Could anyone supply a source for the chart positions cited here? I'm afraid they may be incorrect. GassyGuy 13:30, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Life[edit]

I removed the following from the Personal Life section, there were no citations nor a proper source mentioned for the alleged interview.

It is also reported that Thicke is an avid drug user. In a 2007 interview, Thicke said "When I have some downtime I normally get really high and I dance all night; I get drunk and I party until I can't party anymore and I surround myself with close friends and great food." And when asked about his 2007 birthday plans, he said ""I plan to be as close to death as possible. Whatever kind of drugs I'm offered, I'm taking it."

Grammy?[edit]

Where did he really grow up?[edit]

"Los Angeles" works better with his image but were talking about the rich child of a celebrity here. Beverly Hills? Malibu? Where did he really grow up? I think if the facts got out this guy would lose his "cred" in about an hour. He makes Vanilla Ice look like Al Capone. Since when you R&B singers (of any color) need "cred"? Vanilla Ice is a rapper and Robin Thicke is a singer, you do understand the difference don't you? If he comes out with a gangsta rap album then we can all question his "cred," until then he is just fine. He is a poser either way. Who cares about his cred. He has chops and the women love him, that's some cred I would like to have. Wayne[edit]

Stress indicator needed?[edit]

Why is there a stress indicator in the IPA for Thicke? Since the word is only one syllable, it is superfluous and incorrect to use stress indicator. Another user, Kwamikagami, keeps adding the stress indicator when I remove it. Can I please get opinions from other editors of this page - what do you guys think? It is, of course, correct to use it, just as it's correct to use spell out his first name rather than calling him "R". You keep saying it's incorrect, but apparently have no evidence for that opinion. It may not be necessary for most English speakers, but it would be relevant if anyone ever added IPA for the first name. Anyway, this is part of a general convention of marking stressed syllables for stress; if you think it should change, you should bring it up at WP:IPA for English, as a change would affect hundreds of articles. — kwami (talk) 08:02, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ladefoged, A Course in Phonetics, discusses 'strong' and 'weak' forms of some English monosyllabic words. The difference corresponds to stress. For example, the demonstrative PN that is /ˈðæt/, whereas the relative PN that varies between /ˈðæt/ and /ðət/. In the section on sentence stress (p 118 in my edition), he compares disyllabic and monosyllabic words, and how their stress may be dropped in some contexts:
'Mary's younger 'brother wanted 'fifty chocolate 'peanuts.
The 'big brown 'bear ate 'ten white 'mice.
Also phrases like the 'unknown 'man vs. the 'man is un'known, where man receives the same stress as unknown.
Can't find it offhand, but if you look up stress in English compounds, you'll find examples like blackbird /ˈblækbɜrd/ vs black bird /ˌblæk ˈbɜrd/. The analysis requires that monosyllables be stressed.
Again, in a string of monosyllables like Tom de la Rue, we need to show which are stressed and which aren't if we're to properly convey the pronunciation. Dict.com has it there: /ˈdɛlə ˌru, ˌdɛlə ˈru/ (which for us would be /ˈdɛlə ruː, ˌdɛlə ˈruː/: the distinction (presumably between US and UK pron) is whether or not the Rue is stressed). — kwami (talk) 00:08, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Awards[edit]

I am removing the Grammy awards section. Although the albums mentioned won Grammys, there is no evidence from the official Grammy website that Robin won anything. Being a producer or song writer for a track or two doesn't usually win you a Grammy. "Sexist of the year"[edit]

Robin's Middle Name[edit]

His dad wrote in the book, How Men Have Babies, that he regretted the monogram he gave his son. He wrote that his "second son's full name is Robin Alan Thicke... RAT! Sorry, Rob." This appears on page 69.
For many years, this article had Charles as the middle name, but that was false. It was added by a sockpuppeter in April 2006[1] which is the first time it appeared anywhere. Because of circular reporting, many writers accepted the middle name Charles which they got from Wikipedia. But Alan is the middle name. Binksternet (talk) 07:10, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

To point at that photo and say "yup, that's what did it" is speculation, isn't it? Who's to say when exactly the relationship started to "break down" or say that this photo was even an important factor to that end (other than Paula and Robin who've yet to make any such specific comment on it to my knowledge)? The picture exists, that's a fact, but anything else regarding its significance in the context of their marriage is a matter of inference, therefore it doesn't strike me as the sort of thing to seriously consider for inclusion in the article.
